Plex splitting audiobook

Server Version#: 1.21.1.3795-ee64ab56f
Player Version#: 4.47.3

I have created a library for audiobooks which are in my iTunes library but everything is not going as expected.

One title is made up of 10 discs but for some reason Plex is treating disc 2 as a separate “album”.
All files:

  1. are in the same folder
  2. are of the same type (copied from the CDs with the same settings)
  3. have the same file name structure
  4. have the same metadata added … the only metadata I have added was using iTunes but I have also used ExifTool to view the metadata. It isn’t designed for audio files so may be missing information but does display a long list of metadata. Other than expected differences like duration, create, modification and access times, number of tracks on the disk and filename I can see no obvious differences between the metadata in a file on disc 2 and a file chosen from another disc at random
  5. are using local metadata only (I assume this is the case as no match is found)
  6. display in iTunes as a single title
Both “albums” appear in Plex Web under the same “artist” and the two albums display the same artwork, title and year of release.

Can someone please let me know how I can force these to appear as a single title and/or find the cause for them being separated?

I managed to fix this. The method was a bit heavy handed and I still have no idea what the cause of the problem was but I deleted the library and recreated it from scratch. This time the problem audiobook has not been split. Clearly something had not been updated despite multiple rescans and metadata refreshes as there was no change to the files or their location before recreating the library.
