I’m hosting Plex on my Synology NAS, when playing content through a web browser on my IPad it works fine, however if I try using the iOS app it tells me I need a subscription.
My understanding was that if it was on the local network I wouldn’t need a remote streaming pass, so looks to be an issue with the iOS app itself.
Your information is a little incorrect and only applies if you have a Plex Pass, which I would encourage you to purchase.
To use the iOS app without having a Plex Pass, you need to pay the app purchase fee which is $5 USD if memory serves and can be purchased through the Apple store I believe.
It also does NOT provide all of the benefits of a Plex Pass.
A Plex Pass allows you to use any Plex app on any device without the need to purchase the individual apps. There are many other benefits to having a Plex Pass that you may find appealing.
This page will help you purchase a Plex Pass and provide more details about the benefits I mentioned:
Thanks, I do have a plex pass, and I don’t know if there was some sort of issue that was resolved at Plex’s end because I’ve done nothing but it’s just started working as expected on both devices.
hello sorry to join the discussion. I bought the app last year, to use it comfortably on all my devices, but since April 29th it asks me to subscribe to the plex pass. where am I wrong? thanks in advance
You might want to catch up on this announcement from earlier this year.
In short:
Remote Access is no longer free — it’ll require either the server owner from where you’re streaming to have a Plex Pass OR you having a Plex Pass OR you having a „Watch Pass“
The mobile apps no longer require a one-time activation
There’s a free „Watch Pass“ trial for users who previously paid to unlock the old mobile apps
