I just bought a Xbox One S, and I have som issues with playback of some of my content… All my blu-rays are with HD Audio, which will then make my Synology (HP Microserver with DSM installed) to transcode and my server apparently isn’t fast enough to transcode my media because my CPU is at 95-98% …
All other content with LPCM, Stereo, AAC etc works fine, only my blurry with HD Audio has this issue…
The NAS is Ethernet connected 1Gbit and my Xbox is connected with 1Gbit, so the bottle neck is not the delivery of the file…
Is there any plans In the future to make the Plex app on Xbox One S compatible with HD Audio? The Blu-Ray player on the xbox support HD audio…
Please let me know what to do… Transcoding alle my content and remove of the HD audio is not an option as I use this in my cinema with another player.
Hi there. What codecs are your video files using? If your audio streams are not compatible (which it seems is the case here) then only the audio streams will need transcoding, which is not a very CPU intensive task. The only caveat is that at the moment if the video stream is HEVC then if the audio stream needs to be transcoded then so will the video stream for technical reasons.
I think I found out why the problems with Stuttering/buffering happens…
I tried to install PMS on my home computer… an i7 and then the xbox one will play anything, so it is defiantly a CPU issue.
When I play a blurry from the i7 machine the CPU goes to anything between 36-40% CPU use… but if I turn off the subtitles it will go to 0-3% CPU use…
So I tried the same movie from my Synology and it stuttered to start with and the CPU on the Synology went to 96-99%, but when I turned off the subtitles the cpu went down to 10-15% and the playback on the Xbox works flawlessly…
So the problem is when I turn on subtitles and it is on alle my movies… really weird, how can subtitles cause so much CPU usage? Do you have any idea.?

The video is transcoded to apply subtitles for most clients
Subtitles are not supported by Plex… and I don’t know if we’ll see the Plex UWP app coming to XO because we’re waiting for such a long time I think it’ll never come, I’m really hopeless!!!
How about 4K material? I have som UHD samples in h265 HEVC but It seems to stutter as well… is that because the app dosent support that yet or what could the issue be?
Just to clarify, 4K HEVC video is certainly supported by **both ** the Xbox One and Xbox One S with the caveat that currently if the audio stream needs transcoding then the video stream will **also ** be transcoded. We’re working on resolving that in a future update.
Now I have tried to watch some of my content on my Xbox One S with Plex, and after 10-15 minutes it starts to stutter a bit, not much but the picture isn’t as smooth as It startet out to be… Then I tried to download the Plex app direct to my TV’s smart tv, and there were no problems at all, and the tv is running wireless… really weird that the Plex app for Xbox is so bad compared to a smart tv Plex app…
