Plex suddenly stopped working

Server Version#:1.15.2.793
Player Version#:latest on all clients

Hello all. A few days ago, completely out of the blue, my roommates informed me plex was no longer working on theri ipad, xbox, or ps4 (respectively). I checked and it wasn’t working on my phone or chromecast either. What happens is, you can browse just find, but if you play a video it just buffers at infinitum. nothing ever plays. It will play in the web client on the server computer, and all local files play fine. We have used this setup for 3 years without a hiccup. I tried rolling back to an older version, I tried completely reinstalling plex from the ground up (including deleting all registry keys and local data, plus a sweep with revo uninstaller pro) I rebuilt my library from scratch (which was a bear, since I have a lot of independent films with custom metadata) and it worked fine for about a day and then the problem returned. I even reset my modem and router to factory defaults and reinstalled plex all over again. It worked for a few hours and then the problem returned. Happens no matter what version of PMS I’m using (I’ve tried 1.15., 1.13, and 1.9) I have not changed any settings recently on the server computer. I will attach logs and debug logs. Oh, and occasionally while trying to troubleshoot this issue I would get the “no soup for you” error while on the web app on the host computer. Thank you in advance for your help.

More logs, these are from before the first reinstall.

I have the same issue. Plex doesn’t work on any device or app outside of the server computer. This came seemingly completely out of nowhere.

i am sure i am wrong but it could be 2019-03-26 20:29:05,783 (19c4) : CRITICAL (runtime:709) - Private handlers are no longer supported…
it could also be a double nat situation where the isp has placed your account into the pool… check ipchicken and your port forwarding…

you also have a load of plug-ins which may not be working anymore that could interfere…

at least in your first logs in the OP…
check your server setting remote page it might tell you that remote is not working. which if your port forwards are correct and your setup is static the only thing i can think of is some filtering along the route somewhere that is blocking it.

iv’e been having the same issue as you iv’e uninstalled and reinstalled the plex server at first it works but as soon as i want to go to settings to make sure that the remote access works i get the no soup for you message and all is gone i have to reinstall the server and if i don’t touch it it works for about an hour and then again the same thing happens i’m getting very frustrated never happened in all the years iv’e had plex

Well, seems that I am not the only person that has had a fun day. Yesterday Plex was working just great. Today it was dead in the water no matter what I did. After troubleshooting for quite a while, I completely uninstalled Plex and reinstalled.

Got my movies added in and then…no soup.

Restarted the computer, started up Plex again and all seemed well. Add in all my music and then…no soup yet again.

At the point I am not even sure I want to go thru the hassle of adding back the TV Shows. Going to watch the set-up for a few days and see what happens.

I haven’t even bothered fussing with turning remote access back on. I figure what’s the point if it barely is working locally.

So I actually do have two routers so it could potentially be double NAT, but again I have used this setup for year. The way I have it currently set up is I have a modem/router at one end of the apartment that dishes out ethernet to my livingroom consoles/tv/printer, and wifi to my roommates. Then a 100ft ethernet that goes to a netgear router, with DHCP turned off, and dishes out wifi to the other two rooms in the apartment. the wifi uses the same ID and pass as the other end of apartment, so that devices switch between the two signals as you cross the apartment. most plex devices use ethernet through one of the two routers, and I even tried making my server static, which didn’t fix the problem.

UPDATE: I just checked for double-NAT and I do not have any double NAT issues. I tracert’d google’s dns and only one private IP came up (my default gateway)

the ISP could also have you in a NAt Pool unless you pay for a static ip… if you have a vPN on the server PC plex may also throw a fit…

what i would do at this point clear all your logs wait 30mins after confirmed failure and capture a new set for someone more experienced to get to. it may take a little bit for a proper response. i would also suggest this for anyone else who has the issue

No Vpn, I deleted the logs, and restarted plex. Its working this moment (which it occasionally does after a restart) once it starts to fail in an hour or two I will post the new logs. thanks!

Well, I don’t see any help from the devs or support at all. Good thing I am not a premium user or I would be hella pissed at this point. How the heck is Plex not serving at all? I can’t serve any tv show or movie at this point. Didn’t do anything but perform the regular update like always & Plex stopped working. I hope this gets fixed asap. I may be forced to find another server to use here shortly. SMFH

I installed new Windows update… problem is gone. I guess this was a Microsoft screw up. My bad, Plex. Plex is again streaming on all my devices.

mine is working again too, but I did not install a new update, I just deleted my logs as suggested above. If it messes up again I will still post those new logs here but I can’t for the life of me figure out what was wrong.

Problem came back. Don’t know what the problem is. I am tired of messing with it. I don’t have time to be troubleshooting this crap every other day. Either this gets fixed or I will figure out another way to do this. This is ridiculous. SMFH.

Here are my logs. Hope they help.

Unless they ask for it you should uncheck Verbose logging, they just need Debug.

I see potential database, network and other errors:

How to repair a database:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/201100678-repair-a-corrupt-database/

I don’t mind deleting my database file if that will correct the problem. I don’t know how to install the SQLite software. It’s just a .dll file and a DEF file when I download the .zip file for Windows at the SQLite website.

I restarted computer after deleting database. It seems to be working now. I updated my movies but not my tv shows as of yet. I will get on that this evening so it can process overnight.

It’s not working… AGAIN!!! I have no idea what is going on. It works for a day or so then it breaks again. WTF? Is it Windows 10? I never had this issue with Windows 7. I am thinking of moving my server over to my MacBook Air. SMFH.
