Plex suddenly taking all RAM and crashing the server every morning

Server Version#: 1.32.0.6973

Hello, I’ve had an issue over the last few days where my server will crash sometime between 7am and noon. Sometimes it will restart itself, but other times it won’t come back at all. During this, the system will be really slow and sometimes unreachable.

I looked through this forum post and @ChuckPa 's response about high values when running the SQL readout.

This is what mine looks like, which judging by the responses that were given in the original post are a problem. If @ChuckPa or someone here would be able to help me fix the issue, that’d be greatly appreciated!

What am I looking at ?

Also, what host is this running on?

When is your butler (scheduled tasks) set to run?

Apologies, I realize I didn’t give you much information or context.

  1. This is the SQLITE query after running
    cd ‘/path/to/container/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases’

echo ‘select count(metadata_item_id),metadata_item_id from metadata_relations group by metadata_item_id order by count(metadata_item_id) desc limit 20’ | sqlite3 com.plexapp.plug-ins.library.db

  1. PMS is running on Arch Linux

  2. Butler is scheduled to run 1am-6am

I hope this helps, I can send any/all logs if needed

  1. Arch isn’t supported.
  1. Since you’re playing with the DB, and it’s crashing, I will conclude a damaged database is causing it ?
    – If so, I have a tool which fixes SOME of this but not all.

https://github.com/ChuckPa/PlexDBRepair/Latest

If the records are damaged – OR – the version of PMS which you’re running hasn’t cleaned out from a previous metadata error

Then you’re left with few options. short of exporting the viewstate info and rebuilding.

Update, my boot SSD died entirely! Safe to say that was what was causing errors and crashing.

On the bright side, I had a Plex database backup on one of the other drives, so nothing will be lost.

Thanks again for your help!
