Plex to trigger Alexa Routines for home automation

With Plex having an Alexa skill already, it would be great if it can also communicate with Alexa and run Alexa Routines based on media type. My main interest is to re-create the theater experience with lights dimming for trailers, then when the movie turns on they turn all the way off. Since Alexa can communicate with Smartthings, Phillips hue, and numerous other smart devices the combinations and device integration are endless.

So for example, Plex starts playing a movie and the server is configured to play 4 trailers before. Because Plex knows it’s playing trailers before a movie it triggers the Alexa Routine that I’ve created that dims all the lights to 20%. Once the actual movie starts playing, Plex then triggers Alexa to run the routine that then turns all those lights off.

As mentioned, possibilities are endless. Press pause, Plex sets the lights to 20%. Movie is over, lights turn on, etc…

This would definitely take Plex and home automation to the next level.

You are right! How cool. I can’t believe this isn’t already in place. I have my theater room lights (lutron caseta hub) linked to a Logitech Harmony Hub. When I enter the room I say Alexa turn on the Tv and the lights dim and all my components turn on. I can use my remote or alexa to turn the lights off once the show starts, but how cool if you start the movie and lights dim during set amount of trailers then turn off at the beginning. Need to pause the movie they dim to whatever percent set. Stop the movie…come on Plex make it happen. You took plug-ins away and it sounds like hue hub plugin does this but i cant install plugins on the Terramaster plex server.
