Plex Transcoder Fork Bombing

@ChuckPa
Oh no sorry, there are two machines here.

I have a local machine I run at my house which I originally installed Kubuntu on, it runs flawlessly with no issue.

This machine we have been talking about with the problem is one I rent that is running 5.15 on regular LTS Ubuntu.

I will take that caution into consideration however. It’s been like 5 years since I did a fresh install on my local machine anyways.

Thanks for clarifying.

I only advise caution because like all “derivatives of the original”, something changed. If it starts acting weird, then start comparing.

It’s why Mint, another derivative, does not hold up well at all to the load PMS puts on it.

I have been unable to convince them to update the kernel or move me. Could you possibly include the output of

ps -o nlwp $(pidof ‘Plex Transcoder’)

On your server that is running the same hardware while transcoding something? If you can show yours doesn’t also produce a similar output, I might be able to convince them to upgrade the kernel.

Just wanted to say this was definitely an issue with specific hardware/configuration/kernel. I wound up moving to a dedicated machine where I could control the kernel and I don’t have the same issues on a current kernel. The thread count is similar to my and @ChuckPa’s other machines (less than 100 even with a streams running).
