Plex Server Version 1.11.3.4803. Only happens with a Samsung Smart TV.
The plex app on the TV won’t play anything through plex. When you try to play one movie, it’ll fail, but on the server it shows the TV is trying to play 6-8 movies in the span of a minute that were not selected to play.
what winds up happening is a TON of plex transcoders are spawned and then zombie, as the TV isn’t playing anything. Damn near crashed my server. I can either kill the children or restart the plex server.
A Sony BluRay player wont play movies either, but it doesn’t spawn the transcoders of doom. Tried direct enable and disable on both, nothing works.
It’s my dad’s devices, at his house. I don’t know the models. My fix is to give him a spare Roku I have laying about.
What I’m concerned about is all these transcoders that spawn and don’t exit gracefully. This happened the other day and lasted over an hour (and many emails from xymon telling me) before I was able to login to my server and kill them. At that time, I didn’t know what was going on, but today I had time to help Dad t/s why he couldn’t watch anything off my plex, and I now know what happened a few days ago.
