Sonos S2 systems support 24-bit/48kHz, however when trying to stream music it gets automatically transcoded to AAC.
However if I play 16-bit/48kHz then it does use direct play.
From what I can tell Plex doesn’t have a profile setup for Sonos S2 systems. It caps everything at the S1 systems and if it’s exceeded then it just transcodes it to AAC.
Plex needs to implement a profile for S2 Sonos systems as they are able to support the higher bitrate otherwise cannot achieve direct play when the speaker itself is able to support the format.
