Plex transcoding ALAC to AAC from Mac OS

I have plex installed on my Synology Diskstation and libraries on the diskstation and my Mac (OS High Sierra 10.13.6). My music is stored on my Mac in iTunes, which I’ve added as a server in Plex.

When I open Plex on my Mac (which opens into Chrome, so it’s an app on the diskstation) and play music to via Airplay to my speaker (via an Airport base station), I see that plex is transcoding the ALAC to AAC.

Shouldn’t all devices involved support ALAC? When I try playing music to the same speaker via Plex IOS it works fine without transcoding. I’d like to be able to do the same from my Mac. Any suggestions on how to achieve this? Thanks
