Plex transcoding space requirements changed for live tv and transcoding?

Server Version#: 1.18.1.1973
Player Version#:newest beta on all clients

I saw a comment on Plex’s reddit a few weeks ago about space requirements for transcoding or live tv changing. I thought I saw something like Plex requires 8GB or 16GB of free space for transcoding or for live tv, per stream. I believe this changed recently.

I am asking because I transcode to ram, and have about 18GB free. But I got a warning while transcoding that there was “Not enough Space” but I had about 12GB of ram free. I am running Unraid if that matters.

Live TV may be the exception to pointing the transcoder to /dev/shm or ram. For a 2 hour program it was looking for 33GB of ram.

Is that normal? Was that high space requirement always in place? I am a long time Plex user but I just added live tv so that side is a little new.

Not sure of the exact version when they implemented it but at least the last 6 months. It is only for Live TV, a schedule recording writes the session files to the library where there is usually GB/TB of space.
I just pointed my Transcoder to the same directory as the TV library then I don’t have to worry about running out of space.
