I have the two versions in their own folders and naming is the same for file /folder. Yet, I see it treated as a version within plex. Isn’t there supposed to be a menu that pops up asking which edition I’d like to watch (theatrical or extended)?
Read this support article to understand Editions:

Yup I read it. Several times. Did I miss something? Afaik I did everything as instructed.
Something must have been missed because the if the editions took you would see the label on the movie page like so:
There are a couple of different ways to handle editions as the support article mentions.
The support article on naming goes into further details:
https://support.plex.tv/articles/naming-and-organizing-your-movie-media-files/
That shows that you can keep the files in the same parent directory individually or have different folders like you have (useful for if you want extras specific to each version).
Which version of Plex Media Server are you running? I doubt it’s the case, but maybe you aren’t on a version that supports editions yet? It’s been a while since it came out as this point so I’m kind of doubtful like I said, but worth asking.
Otherwise, I myself don’t use the edition tags in the file and folder name, so I can’t say why that isn’t working properly. I choose to split the movies apart and then I edit the edition field from the web app to put what I want.
Since you are only showing the folders in your OP, what do the actual files look like?
Obviously the movie is being found, but I’m just wondering if there is something with the filenames possibly causing an issue?

From the looks of both articles (the multiple editions article, and the naming your movies article), it looks like you named the folder correctly. I don’t know if the lack of a year for the movie is an issue, but I’d expect it wouldn’t be necessary… Wouldn’t hurt to try and include them to be sure.
But how are the files themselves named? Files within a folder also have to have the {edition-EDITIONTYPE}
tag on the end of the filename as well. I doubt you’d have missed that, but I just want to be sure.
Nope. I thought the same thing but based on this portion of the support article (bold and italics mine)
Now, it’s completely possible that the support article is incorrect (or it’s not working as Plex intended) if you have seen this not work with your own eyes. However, just going by the article, since the OP is in fact using individual folders per movie (based on the first screenshot), if they only have the edition tag on the folder it should be working. But, that was part of the reason I asked what the filenames looked like same as you.

Ah, I skipped through the articles until I got to the section on the sample folder structure. It shows the name on both. I see now that - right above it - they suggest either option. Well, shoot me in da gums.
I don’t use editions myself, so I don’t know how Plex behaves one way or another. I just hoped to drag out more info from the OP, with hopes the solution is something simple.
Are you using one of the old deprecated agents, by chance?
Only “Plex Movie” has support for editions.
IT WAS THE YEAR! lol. As soon as I put the year in the title it worked. Both files and folders were named exactly the same. Tried it in separate folders, same folder, I have Plex movie scanner enabled and was on the previous version, just updated to 1.31.3.6868-6000 5 min ago.
Maybe update the FAQ to include this? Unless I am an anomaly.
One thing I did read incorrectly was that the editions are listed as separate movies. I thought (and would prefer) they would be listed as one, and when you go to play them a popup appears and asks which edition you would like to play. Bummer.
Thanks for your help everyone! Glad to get it working!
Color me surprised. I was going to mention something about the year in one of my posts but decided the movie matched so the year shouldn’t be an issue. I was actually going to say it’s a good idea to have the year just in case there are multiple movies with the same name (even if you only have one of them) and also as a hint to help the agent with matching. Good to know it helped with the edition issue though.
Glad you got it working.
