Plex TV scraping limitation

I switched from the TVDB to the updated Plex TV DB scraper, but I run into a limitation. Some shows have more than 120 ep in one season. I have over 200 eps. in the specials season in Saturday Night Live. The plex site only lists 120 but the db goes past that. I am unable to match past it

Plex uses episode ordering from themoviedb.org or thetvdb.com (aired/dvd/absolute).

You will have to arrange your files to match the layout at those sites.

Using SNL as an example:

/TV Shows <-- folder added to TV show library
../Saturday Night Live (1975) <-- ShowName (year)
..../Season 00 <-- "Season" in English, use 00 for specials.
....../Saturday Night Live (1975) s00e01 Mardi Gras Special.ext  <-- ext = mkv/mp4/etc.
....../Saturday Night Live (1975) s00e02 Things We Did Last Summer.ext

Plex defaults to themoviedb.org ordering. You can change the order at either the library or show level.

To modify at the library level:

  • Edit the show (pencil icon)
  • Choose Advanced
  • Set Episode ordering as desired.

Tools to assist with renaming:

Many people use Filebot. It is quite powerful and can rename an entire library in minutes.

Tiny Media Manager is also very useful, and free.

TMM Renamer Patterns:

  • Show Name: ${showTitle} (${showYear}) {tvdb-${showTvdb}}
  • Season: Season ${seasonNr2}
  • Episode Name: ${showTitle} (${showYear}) s${seasonNr2}e${episodeNr2} ${episode.title}
  • Movie Name: ${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}}

PowerRenamer in Microsoft Power Tools is helpful for simple renaming with pattern matches or regular expressions. It makes quick work of tasks such as adding a year to file names, removing undesirable text from multiple files, etc.

Sorry I’m not being clear. The naming convention is fine not the issue. However the actual title of the episodes are not listed past ep 120 on Plex for this season.

So what was. Ep 121 on thetvdb does not line up with plex’s ep121. And there seems to be no way to see what the database has past ep 120. If there was a list view instead only thumbnails I could match the rest of my existing library that worked fine when using thetvdb.

For example say it the best of Adam Sandler was listed as ep 150 on thetvdb now I have no idea what plex’s. Ep 150 is, so I can’t match my existing file names to be the correct order.

Does this make sense?

Tell me if I’m off base, but it appears you are running into TMDB and TVDB episode ordering differences.

Using Best of Adam Sandler as an example: TMDB has it as s00e09. TVDB has it as s00e209.

You have to pick which episode ordering you want to use and then rename your files to align accordingly.

You’re not doing anything wrong. Just a PITA process when TMDB & TVDB disagree.

There is no episode 121 in the specials according to the TVDB
It lists no episodes at all between s00e95 and s00e201
What you had as s00e150 TVDB changed to s00e209, as FordGuy mentioned

I have a feeling what might have happened is the TVDB order changed somewhere between now and when you originally scanned the shows in using the TVDB order with the old agent

Now that the metadata refreshed everything is a mess, but this isn’t something Plex did

I just noticed they changed the order to the show NOVA yesterday and the last half of one season became the entire next season with different numbers

Unfortunately, I’m afraid using the TMDB order won’t fix it even though the show numbers line up better, it’s doubtful they’re exactly the same

If you use the renaming program below you can just rename everything according to the TVDB in a few minutes
