Plex UI Design - We Get It!

It is obvious CUSTOMERS do not want the new UI with the 100’s and 100’s of pleas to revert. We get it - you heavily invested in a new design and BETA testing failed to identify the huge support for the prior left menu list. However, holding a Swiss army knife with customer satisfaction plummeting, will not end well, even after you choose not to change. Don’t be another Cracker Barrell who far underestimates customer satisfaction and the backlash that call emerge.

A key reason the UI is not desired as it requires FAR MORE clicks than when the Menu list was on the left. It has inserted layers which you have to navigate through. I counted it last night. I found myself having to go to Top Menu, and then click to Libraries, and then scroll over to the Library I wanted and then click to go down through the list of shows - 12 clicks.

Previously, I achieved the same action with 5-6 clicks. That is 50% more clicks. This is why no one likes the menu at the top - it requires more clicks. Prior was simple and quick.

Now, Plex may or may not be a environmental concerned company, which they should be, but the action above, more clicks, will cause the Roku batteries to go dead faster. all because of a poor UI design. My Roku battery is only used for Plex and lasts about a year,. Going forward, I will give it 8 months, maybe 6. Multiply that by 10 MILLLION users and Plex just increased their carbon footprint 10x. You will not get any award for that and go on the list of companies who continue to not take action to REDUCE their footprint.

Please respond to the customer needs. Make this a WIN-WIN.

I second this, the old UI need to be brought back. This new UI is junk and takes forever to access my media. I will swap server software, even after all my family bought the lifetime pass to access my server. I will revert all of them and have them demand refunds also. Who approved such a bad design? There had to of been 10 approvals on this, looks like plex needs to clean house on the project teams!

My family absolutely hates the new app. Plex’s response was enraging. I’ve been a lifetime member for over 10 years but I’m starting to look for alternatives.

don’t give a crap about the environmental stuff. but I agree the new ui sucks so hard. more clicks, more confusion, worse in everyway.

There’s a response? I guess I’m overlooking it?

Roku New Experience Release Update - in other words, “yeah, we heard you don’t like it, no we’re not going back, have you tried restarting the app?”

I third this statement. I have strong feelings about this, but I also love plex, I want to continue using plex, and in the spirit of sending feedback, I agree wholeheartedly that it has added steps for me to access my own library, and that is my primary concern. The bugginess is being worked out, which is wonderful. What would it take to consider this a user requested change? If not a “legacy ui” skin or option to move the bar, I think the access to my libraries has become significantly more difficult. My young daughter is now unable to figure it out, which has caused significant problems in our house. My wife and I own businesses and when we have meetings or conferences it is a massive problem to have our three year old daughter coming for help because she cannot access her shows due to the complexity of navigation that has been added. This complexity has never been a thing before in plex, which tells me that somewhere along the line a decision was been made to create this complexity. That is my primary concern here, that a person or group of people decided to add difficulty in accessing our libraries, which is the primary use of plex for the majority of us.

Look the new update is not great but I don’t think the UI is aimed at three year olds. Plex is not the problem there.

Nor do I, but there are plenty of families that have members that already struggle with technology, including many adults. I was simply illustrating that in my case, my daughter could use plex on her own three days ago, and that the added complexity of navigating to our libraries now prevents her from doing so and caused difficulty in our household that did not exist before this update. Updates and changes by definition should improve quality of life, not hinder it.

It’s as bad as windows 8 ui, I don’t understand how UI design can be so bad , and why do companies believe they need to update or change their UI for no reason just to change it. When they had it right to begin with.

Boys and girls, Plex isn’t going to revert this unless there’s a massive dropoff in use of the platform, which so far, there hasn’t been. The number of people biitching and moaning (including myself) doesn’t even matter. Unless you switch to Jellyfin or another alternative and shut your Plex install down, they’ll just proceed.

All those “suggested” movies and tv are straight-up ads, which Plex obviously gets a cut of. I hate super hero movies, but it still suggests them. Same with romance movies and kids movies. Makes it very obvious that they’re ads. To be clear, there should NEVER be a single ad of any form in a paid product.
