To downgrade the version,

  1. Uninstall the package
  2. Restart DSM
  3. Install the desired package
  4. Wait 3 minutes to allow PMS to adjust its database to the new version.

Synology does not allow downgrading packages therefore this technique must be used.

Your metadata (the Plex share) is not removed by doing this.

Hi ChuckPa
Thanks for the hint… but this workaround did not work either: I uninstalled the current package, restarted the DSM and then tried to install manually 1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9-x86_64.spk on my DS218+…
result: same error message but now and worse… I lost my previous installation !!!
What else can I do?

If you can not install Plex, or any other apps in DSM, you have no choice but to backup the DSM configuration and reinstall the OS portion.

Do not be alarmed. Reinstalling the operating system does not delete any data .
It does require you to reinstall your applications (install the software and register them with DSM again). Applications keep your data on Volume1 so your actual application data (which includes Plex) and all your media shares, are safe.

You want this Synology How-To:
https://www.synology.com/en-us/knowledgebase/DSM/tutorial/General_Setup/How_to_reset_my_Synology_NAS

  • Step #3 (Mode 2)

Before doing this, Control Panel - Backup & Restore - Backup your DSM configuration.

After you reinstall DSM, the Synology Assistant app will help you find the Syno if it’s nt back at its original IP. From there you can restore all your DSM settings.

The only task remaining for you is to reinstall the packages.

Followed your instructions:

  • Backuped/Stored the DSM configuration on my local iMac-drive
  • Resetted the Syno
  • Reinstalled the DSM and the packages
  • Tried to restore the configuration… however without success!! Could choose the stored file on my iMac, load it but when I clicked on “contiunue”, the same error was displayed like when trying to install the downloaded plex package from my iMac
  • Configured the entire system manually
  • Installed the available plex package (1.18.5.2309) from the syno repository with success !!! All data from volume1 still available
  • stopped the installed plex package and tried to install to stored version 1.20.1.3252 from my iMac… without success… same error message than before

I am helpless… do not understand, why a uploaded file (configuration or spk) from my iMac can be selected, uploaded but not executed/stored…!?
