Update plex synology DSM 7

have plex on a synology dsm - it’s from the beta channel package installation.

Plex tells me I need to update - but on the synology package site, it’s set to auto update - and says its on the latest version. When I click on update in plex it downloads something.

How do I get it updated?

I have a DS720+

Thank you for the reply trumpy81. So I just set this server up and began on DSM7 and installed the only option which was the beta install. I am getting notification that I need to update within Plex but there is no option within the packages. Looks like now there have been 2 updates since installing the beta version so was a little lost on how and what to actually download and install since DSM 7 was not showing an update available.

So am assuming I just shut Plex down and install PlexMediaServer-1.24.1.4931-1a38e63c6-x86_64_DSM7.spk within DSM7?

I watched this video - How to Upgrade the Plex Package on Synology DSM 7 - YouTube and it confused me as to why there were so many steps to update. Would you mind walking me through the steps to actually install the update?

I just bought the 720+ and it came with DSM7 - there was no migration. I just copied all my movies to the 720+, installed the Plex Beta (only option) via package center, copied all my media to the NAS and then pointed the libraries to their respective folders I created.

Outstanding! Unfortunately I am working and cannot access my 720+ from work. I will take a look later today when I get up and have a better understanding of your directions Another bit of confusion. Everything currently is working flawlessly. Confused about re-creating all my media folders however. Again everything is working great - just got 2 notifications that there was an update available. Again maybe I am just not understanding but it sounds like I have to delete all my media and folders and make them again? Sorry - work 12 hour shifts and almost time to go home :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok here we go - I thought the firewall was blocking me at work but it is not

I guess at the end of the day I just needed to know if I can just run that spk from my desktop or if I had to do a “manual install” from the Package Center… Man I need sleep LOL

Got home and just pulled the trigger - Success! Thanks for all the info and help !!! Have a GREAT weekend trumpy81 !!!

I will heed your warning my friend - sounds like the best advise of the day :+1: One last question because I am new to the NAS world - how do you view the PlexMediaServer folder.

Thanks again!!!

I only see the folders I created for my Plex media - I was looking for all the files…like all the config files etc… like in Windows.

I downloaded it from where Plex had me save the file to when it said I had an update. Refer to the pics above…

Maybe better I don’t have access - this is same file version I installed except Plex had me download it as opposed too getting it from https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/

What was that link again?

I guess I knew that but didn’t put 2 and 2 together - I actually had a machine I ran VMware Workstation Player and ran Backtrack back in the day when I was taking IT Security classes so pretty familiar with Linux and Ubuntu…at least was.

Anyways - thanks again for all the help brother!!!

@trumpy81
I just upgraded to DSM 7.0 since it was released one week ago for my server
i manually installed the newest version from plex website
i did all the procedure of giving security privileges’ to internal user as instructed
plex is working fine altho i had to redo all my libraries again :frowning:
however i still have the old plex folder and is not empty
any instructions i should do please
my server is RS3618xs running dsm 7.0.1.42214
plex server version is 1.24.3.5033-7000

thanks @trumpy81 your the man

I’m not sure if this is the right thread to post in, sorry if its not…

I cannot seem to update Plex to the newest version. I downloaded 1.24.3.5003 from the website, but when I try manual install I get the error “This package is not supported on the platform of DiskStation or is incompatible with the current DSM version.” Im trying updates because Plex refuses to play most files on my PS5, it buffers and never recovers. The same files work just fine on an Apple TV, so im assuming its the Plex app on the PS5…

I have a DS118, I’m running the latest DSM version, 7.0.1-42218. My current Plex version is 1.24.0.4930-7000.

I have a DS918+ and I’ve downloaded Synology > (DSM 7) > [ARMv7 (x15 Series (excluding DS115j and RS815), x16 Series (excluding DS216se), x17 Series, x18 Series, and DS414j)] > PlexMediaServer-1.24.3.5033-757abe6b4-armv7neon_DSM7.spk, but I received an compatibility warning and it won’t install. Any thoughts?

The DS918+ is the Intel processor not an ARM processor
