I keep trying to update Plex to the most recent version of the software, but it never seems to finish - at least not in the span of time that my machine is usually on, about sixteen hours or so. What’s going on, why does it take so long? Is there any way I can see whether it finished?
I used to have this problem until I found out the actual update window hides behind the browser window… where it sits patiently waiting for you to find it and click a button.
If you have found the update window and actually clicked the button… then it must be something else.
I’m not sure I understand…after clicking the ‘download’ button, and then ‘install’, it switches to ‘installing’ and stays there. I never see any other update window either in the browser or on the desktop. Isn’t there an easier way to do this?

I got used to closing the browser once I click ‘install’… that reveals the actual update/installation window on the desktop. If everything is going according to the plan the server has stopped while it’s updating. If you don’t have that update window on the desktop - that would be a problem.
If you’re running two monitors I suppose it’s possible the update/installation window could be somewhere else (on the monitor you’re not looking at), but that too would be a problem.

I have the same problem. My plex says updating, it quits the plex app and then nothing happens, If I restart the plex app it will just say I have an update like before.
Did anyone ever find a cause or resolution for this? I’ve had this issue forever now. On top of it taking forever to install the latest update, my server becomes unclaimed and I am unable to claim it.

I am also having the same problem. I’ve checked and there is no window behind my browser waiting for me to run the install. I’ve also noticed that no one has responded to this since the last time a comment was posted in Jun 19. Was anyone contacted with a solution?

Same here. Trying to install Media Server update 1.15.4.993 for over an hour.
Mine updated, now I cannot login from the outside. I can only access Plex from the server???

Whoever is responsible for helping out these communal issues at plex is really dropping the ball. This is the second thread that I’ve found w plenty of people saying they have an issue for years & plex w radio silence.
