As someone that does not want to jailbreak his phone and is running iOS 17.4.1 I’m not sure this will work for me.
I mention the version because I have found nothing that says Trollstore will work on anything above 17.0.1
I mention jailbreaking because I see mixed sources on this. The Trollstore website says the device has to be jailbroken to install Trollstore. Doh!!
Any info on these concerns? I would LOVE to be able to let me son use his iPhone to watch movies on road trips with one of the “dumb” CarPlay screens!

Unfortunately you need Trollstore to sideload the app as it uses some special entitlements which apple wont allow (to get video playing on the CarPlay side).
Trollstore can work without a jailbreak, you just need the device to be on a specific iOS version which Trollstore supports.
Probably best to find a cheap device on a supported version and use this as your CarPlay solution!
