Server Version#: 1.18.7.2457
Player Version#: 7.29.0.15876
Summary:
When playing videos from Plex (paid Plex pass user here), android clients on 2 different phones randomly pause, and do not resume. This is true regardless of whether we are on the same internal lan as the server, or on a remote WAN connecting to the server.
Pauses do not happen on streaming audio/song libraries. They used to, but this seems to have been fixed over the last year.
Desktop and roku clients do not pause. Everything traversing the same network(s).
I am surprised this is not a more popular question…
I am seeing the paused video using the AndroidTV client as well.
Server: 1.18.8.2527
Client: 7.29.2.16071
The video will be playing perfectly fine for a random length of time (typically between 12 - 18 minutes) and then the video freezes. Pressing stop and then resuming will continue the video (although it is approximately 5-10 seconds further into the video from where it froze) but only for about the same amount of time as the first segment before freezing again.
I have cleared data/cache, uninstalled the app and even created a new local account to try all with the same results.
The files in question play perfectly fine using VLC and Kodi and do not exhibit the same issue in iOS.
The above has only been tested for direct play on the same LAN.
also when you look under Dashboard, it shows that the client is playing even with the client is actually paused So when you resume the playback on the device it is how far along it was still being played before you stopped the playback. This is with android devices only (android tv, firetv, android phone. Either Locally or remotely.
I am also seeing this on FireTV version 7.29.2.16071. When it freezes, the dashboard actually still shows it playing (the clock keeps running). That jives with the fact that when you hit back then resume it, it resumes from the point where you actually stopped it, not where it froze.
This just started happening in the last few days when it updated to this version. I know when it updates because I always have to go in and re-disable the New Player because it sucks balls.
For any plex people here … is there a way to report this issue as a bug? I’d be happy to enter a ticket here.
It looks like it impacts more than just me. I did see a related nvidia shield comment from a few days ago.
Please advise. I’ll try switching to a different media player on the android client to see if that helps. But it would be nice to get some attention to this. Happy to help debug.
It’s a bug in the current release version for Android (7.29.2.16071). I just installed the latest Beta (7.30.0.16218) on my FireTVs and it seems to be resolved.
I’m having this same issue on Server version 1.19.3.2831, with Plex Android mobile version 8.0.2.17816, so I guess it isn’t totally resolved. I’ve also had the audio playback randomly pausing in the past as well, but could never figure it out. Never knew it was actually “pausing” until today, when I watched the server status while troubleshooting it on 4G LTE on my S9+. I’ve simultaneously troubleshot this over iOS app (works fine), and Android Chrome browser (works fine there as well), but the Android app has this problem for me and I’ve even uninstalled it & reinstalled it completely! This had worked in previous versions so what the hell are they doin about this? If it ain’t broke, don’t “fix” it!
Same issue here in my android phone using latest Plex app it’s as if the pause button is being pressed. If I hit play it will play for a few seconds the pause again. Also noticed that there isn’t any sound to accompany the few seconds of video. I’ll try older version of app and see if it fixes issue.
Uninstalled and reinstalled latest version didn’t fix issue. Installed older version 17410 app is now working, updated to latest version and seems to be working still.
I seem to have this issue with two android TVs and two android phones; certain SD TV episodes will just randomly pause / freeze and we can only continue by stopping and starting again from preplay screen. Never happens with HD content it seems?
I remember checking the logs for it one time a few days ago and it was something along the lines of “client dropped the connection” or similar. So I’m fairly certain its the android client at fault. Doesn’t happen for any other users with different clients.
