Plex stops playing after 15-20min on Android TV

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2527 (Linux)
Device#: Xiaomi Mi Box S
Android Version#: 4.9.113 (v9)
Player Version#: 7.29.2.16071 (71e4f554) (Android TV)

A few updates ago the player stops after 15-20 min for no reason and i need to go back and resume from a timestamp, sometimes it asks me to restart the app and the plex server (done that with no success). Also to mention there is no problems with a browser.

The server Plex CPU is very low and am on the same network as the server.

I have barely touched the server settings and current Background transcoding x264 preset is set on very fast.

Server Settings/Network:
Set to kill paused streams at 0

It’s a bug and that might squish it.

Do you mean Terminate Sessions Paused for Longer Than ?

Yea, I believe that’s the one.

Ok, ill try it out and check back with an update

Don’t forget to ‘Save’ - in case you need to scroll down to see it.

I’ve seen that bug on that version…
If you check the dashboard you can actually pause and play the frozen stream.
Only way out of it is to restart the APP on the fire stick. sometimes it requires you to restart the firestick. Playing the same or different video will freeze again in the same time frame.

Some had luck by disabling the new player in the client settings. (didn’t work for me)
I wound up side loading 7.27 as 7.28 caused me to crash the APP.
I am now using the beta version

kepler-armv7a-amazon-fireExo-7.30.0.16311-29f7de79

There is a newer beta that I haven’t tried yet…

I also am having the same issue with the plex player on my 4k firestick. My iphone and LG tv dont have the issue.

Same problem and I am seeing it on the currently available Beta 7.30x. I suffered it on 7.29 and 7.28 as well. Infuriating.

Is this also the solution if the video file stops playing at 34 minutes every time? This is on the amazon tv plex app.

Please try 7.30, which is now publicly available. If you’re still seeing issues there, please let us know.

For any playback related issues, don’t forget to tag #playback to make it easier for us to find things

Same issue on my Shield. Let’s see if changing the pause timeout timer to 0 fixes it.

7.30 should fix that issue, and is available now

The issue now has rolled over to the stable version. Every 10 to 15 minutes live TV is locking up on Nvidia shield and Mi box. This is with the pause option disabled on the server side. No errors just Frozen but still shows playing on the server. I’ll work on logs.

Yea, playback is stopping randomly on FireTV as well.
Unfortunately ‘The Fix’ for that may take a few years.

Yes Fire TV is a trouble child. That’s why I got rid of it. Although I for some reason like the picture quality better on a fire stick.

@DaveBinM Unfortunately the logging on the Android box stops after a certain period of time. Just outside the time of when it freezes. I did let it sit Frozen for about 25 seconds and it seemed to recover. Seems like it might just be a timing issue, and from my pulmonary findings only affecting 1080i.

I’ll open a different thread if I continue seeing the issue. Just started happening with the release of the public update yesterday.

Live TV is a little different. There is a known issue in some regions, which will be addressed in the next 1.18.9 release, which sounds very similar to what you’re describing there.

The Android box is always logging things in the background, you just need to enable network logging again to download it.

Interesting I appreciate that information I did not know that. I’ll definitely look for the next update and if it continues reach out to you guys. Appreciate the reply.
