Playback Pauses or Freezing every 15-20 mins (ave)

Server Version#: 1.18.7.2457
Player Version#:7.29.2.16071 (Android Mobile and TV)

This has been happening since this version of the app got installed on my Sony Android and and my Samsung S9+

Rebooted the server ofcourse and reinstalled the client apps but still happens.

Also have Plex for Kodi installed on the TV and that works just fine so currently looks like this client version and servers version appear to have some kind of issue.

Suggestions?

Had issues with 7.29.2 myself… I went back to 7.27.1 and that worked…

since Ive used the beta updates, found the only one I didn’t have major issues with so far was 7.30.0.16150 There is a later release but I haven’t had time to load and test it.

Thanks, good to get confirmation that this version is not just 1 user.

How did you revert to an older version on Android since the store only gives the latest. Sideload?

Look on Plex for the release announcements…

My Shield is choppy when searching or selecting video seems to lag?

Same thing here, Bravia X900F and Plex 7.29.2. The video freezes and has to be restarted at about the 17 minute mark every time. This didn’t happen on 7.28. Between this and the problem with the new player completely breaking playback it is amazing anyone is able to use Plex on Android at all.

Thanks NVDAVE69.

Was able to get 7.28.x for the phone and it works as expected.
While it’s doable for the TV, its a hassle installing APK’s on that TV without a proper file explorer app and they are totally ■■■■■ with remote control navigation.

So just gonna use Plex for Kodi until Plex devs fix it (if ever).

I use my windows laptop to sideload to the Fire TV stick 4k the APK’s much easier once you set it up… And had all the practice lately…

I’m having the same issue.

Does anyone know if rolling back the server helps? I don’t wanna try and mess with my Android TV unless absolutely necessary.

And does anyone have a link to previous server version linux debs? (I used to have a bunch of old ones, but recently decided to “tidy-up”)

It looks like its an Android Mobile/TV app issue as i had previously rolled back server and still only had issues with Android clients. Kodi and the browser WebApp worked fine.

Any Developer Visibilty on this please???

Android versions are not very usable on the latest client build !!!

Sony TV with Android locks up after playing 30-40 minutes.
Just updated server still same issue. Waiting on fix…

Just posting here, as I am having same issue. Didn’t notice it till I was able to watch on my other streaming devices fine without issues (eg. Roku).

Glad not only one having issue.

The easiest way to side load a device I have found is with a windows laptop.
The laptop has to be on the same network segment. (first 3 octets are identical 192.168.5.x)
laptop setup…
Down load and install a program called ADB, it acts like a server connector
This only needs to be done the first time…
You need to be able to run a command window as administrator. (right click run as administrator)
And of course you need to download the correct APK that you need.

This is my cheat sheet for doing said procedure…
Sideload Fire Stick.txt (3.1 KB)

Please try v7.30, which was released today

I am also having the same issue. I did noticed it affecting all my android devices (fire stick, fire tv, android TV) and 1 Samsung TV. At first i thought it was internet related as i did get a new router back in Dec. this issue started about 2 weeks.
I tried disabled 5G, restricting devices to 2.4gz and vice versa, new router, but in the end its not the router. All streaming services (youtube, netflix, Showtime Anywhere, HBO Go) has no issues on all my devices. I just upgraded to Version 1.18.9.2578 and problem continues.

What Android version?

Since starting this thread the server and android app has been updated twice.

This was resolved for me until the very latest version. It appears to have returned but this time, this build, only appears to be affecting the TV (not seen it happen on the mobile so far).

Seriously disappointed with the testing quality (if it even exists). As this recurrance no longer even tracks the progress of the video that has been watched which means you restart from the start. Atleast the previous bug “performed” better.

Yes, I have reinstalled the app before posting.

Getting the issue still with 7.31 on a Sony TV.

I’m new to Plex and am having this issue with DVB playback, it’s not the hdhomerun as it works in other apps. I also just wasted £100 upgrading my network thinking it might be that! Makes the TV unwatchable! Client is a 2019 Nvidia shield.
