Plex Web App Secretly Mining Crypto?

Server Version#: 1.13.5.5332
Player Version#: 3.73.1

Using the web app in either Chrome or Firefox results in my CPU (Xeon E3) and my GPU (Nvidia Quadro M5000) pegging at 75 and 90% usage respectively. This happens regardless of browser. The RAM usage jumps to ~2GB also… WTF? This is a graphics workstation, and not even professional grade 3D rendering hits the system like your web app…

Have you started mining crypto with our browsers?

While doing what in the Plex web app? Just showing the home page or playing a video with subtitles?

How many other browser tabs are open?

How many (and which) browser add-ons are activated?

When any library is open. Sitting still or scrolling. In two fresh installations of chrome and Firefox (because I thought it was probably an add-on). No other tabs. For comparison, this page produces nearly zero impact on my system. The web app crashes the browser in just a few seconds.

How many (and which) browser add-ons are activated?

None, fresh browser installs.

I cannot confirm your findings.

Which web app are you using? The ‘local’ or the ‘hosted’ one?

If it is the hosted app, does the web browser indicate that the web site is ‘secure’?
