I suddenly can’t access my server using Plex for web. When I try to, I get the yellow circle for a bit then it eventually says “No content available”
If I try go to a specific folder/location on the server using the web app, it says: app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “SERVERNAME” securely
I’ve tried it with the secure connection options set to Required, Preferred and Disabled and the only difference is, with Disabled, it doesnt show the yellow circle it just jumps straight to the “unable to connect” error as youd expect and with Required, I get the error: SERVERNAME is currently unavailable
I can connect with the iOS apps fine and with my TVs fine but I can not use the web app at all, even if I’m on the same network as it.
Ok so I’ve found the issue but I don’t know why it’s happened. I changed my DNS to Googles 8.8.8.8 and it connected so for some reason, both my home ISP and my mobile ISP (different companies) DNS won’t work. My guess its a certificate issue so anyone have any idea how I could fix it for DNS other than Googles?
Today I noticed that on my home network:
FireTV and Android clients were playing fine for some media and not for others.
Web client, Samsung TV client, iOS Client worked fine.
For a remote user with access to my library:
Web client didn’t work, FIreTV client didn’t work.
Every time the remote client tried to start playback, my plex server process would restart.
I run the linux plex server on Ubuntu studio 20.04 LTS and I had been running from this package:
plexmediaserver_1.23.2.4600-f06057b33_amd64
So I downgraded through the following packages:
plexmediaserver_1.23.1.4602-280ab6053_amd64.deb
plexmediaserver_1.23.1.4571-6119e8eed_amd64.deb
plexmediaserver_1.22.3.4523-d0ce30438_amd64.deb
And plexmediaserver_1.22.3.4523-d0ce30438_amd64.deb ended up working fine, my remote user can once again access content through her FireTV and through her computer and the Plex server is no longer crashing when she tries.
I annoyingly can’t change the DNS on my ISPs router. It’s locked. It seems to be a certificate issue that’s causing browsers to not be able to access it and I can’t figure out how to fix it except for changing the DNS of every device that I want to use Plex Web on (which isn’t possible as my work machine doesn’t allow for that.).
