I cannot access my server with a browser but i can with the Plex app

Server Version#:1.23.0.4497
Player Version#:

I have been using plex server on a Mac Mini for a year now and users have been able to access the server remotely with a wide variety of devices - roku, mac, iPad, etc - recently, the users trying to access the server through plex web get a “app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “xxxxxx Server” securely” message - though if I install the plex app on the computer, it works. This is even the case when I am trying to access on the same LAN as the server. I suspect there’s a simple answer, I just don’t know what it is.

I’m having this same issue. Did it ever get resolved?

I haven’t received any reply from anyone on this as yet - but it’s encouraging that someone else has the same problem.

do you have secure connections disabled? try http://app.plex.tv/desktop?secure=0

I have secured connections enabled, and Remote Access says it is" Fully accessible outside your network", but nothing outside of the network can connect and anything on my network using Plex Web also can not connect.

Do you have any duplicate or old servers at https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms Is the server you are trying to connect to listed there?

does http://IP:32400/web or https://LocalP:23400/web work ( In Chrome you might get an browser message saying it is insecure just hit the advanced button proceed anyway other browsers should have similar options)

There was a second server, but it was 2 years old and didn’t have the same name. I deleted it, but there is no change.

http://IP:32400/web does work but https://LocalP:23400/web “says can’t connect to server”. Did you mean “https://LocalP:32400/web”? That also does not work.

About a 2 weeks ago I migrated my old server from a 2018 Mac mini to a new M1 Mac mini and everything has been working fine with no issues until a day ago when this all started. I’ve made no other changes since the initial setup that went very smooth.

Have you restarted server since? Can you double check this is set to Preferred or Required.

Yup. It’s set to “Preferred” and I have restarted the server several times and did it again just now to make sure.

ok then sounds like something is wrong with the certificate. if you just restarted can you grab your server logs.

I’ve attached the sever logs.

I also just noticed that I was accessing the “http://IP:32400/web” in the browser on the Mac Mini itself, but when I try and access it on other computer, it doesn’t work.

The only way I can access the Plex server is using the Mac Plex App. I may have not mentioned that. I can access the Plex Server only from local devices using native apps. Not though any web interface. Because I could not access anything from outside the network, I assumed none of my users could either, but one still can and she is using a Roku.

Hope that doesn’t complicate things more…

those don’t look like your server logs. You can get them in troubleshooting section of server settings.

Oh whoops… Duh. Sorry.

I’ve attached the correct file this time.

I also just shut everything on my network down, including the router, and restarted each one separately. No change.

And apparently some of my users can access the server just fine. Another of them using his iPhone is streaming as I type. But I still can not access it on my local computer though the app.plex.tv/web

My problem is almost exactly the same. Here are my server logs:

Also, Roku have no trouble accessing server. Plex apps, iOS, etc - all work. No Plex Web app (through browser) works - even on the same network. Seems strange.

That’s exactly what I’m finding. I’ve had Roku, iOS and Apple TV users all connect and stream as normal in the last day during which I can not access it through the app.plex.tv on my local server, unless I use the native PLEX app.

And it just randomly started doing this with no changes made by me. It all worked fine 2 days ago. Yesterday work up and it was like it is now.

One other thing I just noticed. When the Plex Web app says it cannot connect to the server securely, it says I can try to navigate directly to the server - this worked on the same network.

My problems started in the last week - before that, all users could connect through whatever client they chose - web, iOS, Plex app. Strange.

@BigWheel I just realized I was doing something wrong earlier… when putting in the local IP address I was putting in the wrong IP. Because I was on the server itself, I had used the PLEX preferences and it pops up in the web browser as 127.0.0.1. Which my brain just assumed was the IP. And that didn’t work on my other computer. And I actually know the IP of the server and didn’t realize what I was doing… As @douglaswang pointed out, there is a link to directly connect to the server (which is the IP) and that works on my other computer.

So hopefully that wasn’t confusing… we are still at the same place and Doug and I seem to have the same problem.

look like this is a larger issue than something specific with your servers. we are looking into it.

Weirdly, I was able to access my server from another network through a browser this morning after being unable to do so for the last two weeks. I didn’t install updates or anything since last night - the only thing I did last night - on one computer - was to access the server using the IP address from a browser. Could that have made a difference?
