[Plex Web] - BUG: Shared Users shared library count incorrect - includes removed servers?

Originally raised this back in Aug 18 but was auto closed after no responses…

On removing a Plex server manually from Plex Web (or maybe it removed itself after a prolonged period of inactivity?), it appears that the “sharing N libraries with this friend” message (in Plex Web - Settings - Friends and Family - Sharing) is not updated to remove the number of libraries that were originally shared with this friend on the old / removed server?

For example, if I had 2 Plex Servers running previously and shared 2 libraries from Server 1 and 3 libraries from Server 2 with a Friend, it correctly states that “sharing 5 libraries with this friend”… but if I remove Server 1 (as in remove it from Plex Web completely without unsharing the shared libraries with this friend first) it still seems to state “sharing 5 libraries with this friend” when it should state “sharing 3 libraries with this friend” (i.e. now only sharing the 3 libraries from Server 2)?

There doesn’t seem to be any way to remove the shared library count from the old removed Server 1 since it no longer appears when you try to edit the friend’s shared libraries (expected since Server 1 has been removed)?

… Also, this doesn’t seem to happen with every friend - It seems to happen randomly?

As an example, I currently have a “Shared User” who is showing in Plex Web (in Plex Web - Settings - Friends and Family - Sharing) as “sharing 6 libraries with this friend” but, if I edit the settngs of this user, there are only 3 tick boxes for libraries shared to this user, so the other 3 phantom libraries are not able to be removed? … env if I remove ALL the tick boxes from the shared libraries for this user and click save, the user is still showing as “sharing 3 libraries with this friend”

Hi. I’ve just came across your post after looking for a solution to the exact same problem!

I migrated my Plex to a new server a few months ago, but have just noticed that those I selectively share folders with are now showing double the number of shared libraries than they should have, so it appears that it is remembering the old shared folders prior to the migration as well as the new ones.

Removing a folder reduces the number of shared folders shown by one, and adding it back increases it by one, so it is not an issue of “double counting”.

My only concern is that I have family folders with home movies etc, and it is now impossible to know which prior libraries “may” have been shared and if the old permissions (which had the same folder names) could somehow migrate to the new server.

Currently, the only way to know for certain would be to ask for all the login details of my users to check for myself!

Yes, it’s definately a bug that’s been around for some time

@ChuckPa - Is this your arena or would you know who I should direct it to?

Plex/Web is not my area

I am on the OS team primarily to support the Server team.
(getting the OS hooks to support transcoding, package installation, etc)

Ok thanks @ChuckPa

Given I raised this a few months back originally without a response and another user is seeing the same above, could you please help me direct this to the attention of the Plex/Web team?

Thanks!

I will do what I can… at the moment, i’m overloaded so please hang in with me

Thanks! Appreciate the support!

Any Plex Web devs/support able to look at this please?

Hi.
I a getting this exact issue and spent ages double and triple checking exactly what was being shared before I found out about this bug. I will be very interested in knowing how to workaround this till a solution is found,

I got the same issue. If a remove all the check boxes it still hows “sharing 4 libraries” from previous migration.

It’s definitely a bug. Just don’t know how to officially raise it with Plex and get it fixed since it’s confusing. I know I only share N Libraries with users but for some of the earlier users it shows N+x libraries.

Please verify the list of ‘Authenticated devices’ in your Plex account.
In the web app app.plex.tv
click on your user avatar in the upper right corner
‘Account’
‘Authenticated devices’
select ‘Server’ from the drop-down

Remove all items there which belong to old servers.
(But don’t remove those for your currently used servers!)

Hi @OttoKerner,

Checked the authorised devices and, you were right, there were old servers listed here (strangely since I removed the old servers from the server drop down list in Plex web previously - Not sure why they aren’t then also deleted from authorised devices)?

Regardless, even after removing the old servers from authorised devices (so only the current running servers are then listed), the “Sharing X libraries with this user” is still incorrect - I have users where I can check that there are say 3 libraries shared with the user (by editing the shared user and counting all the selected libraries across all running servers) but the text beneath the user still states “Sharing 7 libraries with this user”… Even after making changes to the user’s shared libraries and saving again, the count is still incorrect…

I also have this issue happening, I have 17 libraries listed when I’m sharing 14. Would be nice to get an update on this issue!

@chrishoage - Apologies if you’re the wrong person to draw the attention of this to (I noted you were the author of the Plex Web Release Notes) but I’m not sure how to officially raise this with the Plex Web Dev team as a bug?

It’s not clear to me whether anyone from Plex is currently looking at fixing this? If not, could you please help me understand how I officially raise this as an issue to be investigated/fixed as it is affecting multiple users?

You are aware that this number is the total sum of shared libraries, across all of your servers, right?
You have more than 1 server, and you might be sharing libraries with this user from more than one server.

Please send me the affected user name per PM.

Hi @OttoKerner,

I’ve just double checked what my shared user shared library counts are for each shared user and now, strangely, they are all correct.

I was aware that the total shared library count for each user was across all shared servers as I mentioned in my earlier post that you quoted.

I admit that when I posted earlier today, I hadn’t double-checked the shared libraries count for all the users since I checked it last (and last posted in this thread) 28days ago …

… So, something appears to have miraculously fixed this in the last 28days (there is nothing obvious in the Plex Web Release Notes) - I haven’t amended the shared libraries for any of the users since then, but the shared library counts are now 100% correct for each user…

I’m interested to see whether the other in this thread now see in terms of whether their shared user shared library counts are now correct?

Regardless, this appears to now be fixed - at least for me…

Back when you reported it, I deleted an old server from your account. This may have been the fix already and the number you saw was just ‘cached’ data from before that.

Thanks!

I guess if others are still experiencing this issue, they should try the following?

(1) Removing any old servers from their account in Plex Web
(2) Removing the same old servers as Authorised Devices in Plex Web (since I recall removing the servers from the server list does not automatically remove them from Authorised Devices list?)
(3) Clear all browser cache and check again

Thanks!

Omit 1), since 2) will take care of this anyway.
