Plex Web does not remember Advanced Filters

Server Version#: 1.24.0.4930

I’m running Plex in a Docker container. Been working well for the last few months, however after upgrading to the last version of Plex it won’t remember that I have set Advanced Filters on the movie overview page. I set my filters, click on a movie, then go back to the movies page and it will show all movies instead of the Advanced Filters, which is no longer selected in the menu. It will remember other menu options like Unplayed or Decade. Tried this in Vivaldi and Firefox (on Windows 10).

Downgrading to Plex Media Server 1.22.3.4392 fixed the issue for now.

Just so this doesn’t go under completely.
I’ve been playing around with my library for a bit, filtering it, drilling into the results and going back-and-forth. The advanced filter will always remain in place when I do that… so not exactly sure what might be causing this on your end. It doesn’t seem to be a general issue.

Can you also reproduce this with other browsers?

I tried 2 browsers (Firefox and one based on Chromium). When you set your advanced filters for movies and then go back to Home and back to movies again, are your filters still there?

Just retested with Firefox and Chrome, both times getting the same result as on Safari.

  1. Create an advanced filter in the library view
  2. Click on one of the movies to get to its details page
  3. Click the browser’s back button
  4. Result: I’m back on the library screen w/ the previously selected advanced filter still in place (incl. all its filter values etc.).

If you click on the library name at the top of the details page or in the main navigation, you’ll however get back to the regular/unfiltered view. That’s how it’s supposed to be working.

Sad to hear that. That is not how it works in version 1.22.3. That version remembers your filters no matter where you go, which is what I’m used to and what I prefer. It’s a bit of a deal breaker for me so I’ll stay with this version for now.

Thanks for checking btw.

How so? Just click the browser’s back button and you’re getting exactly what you’re aiming for.

Sure that’s true. But don’t you find it tedious to set the filters up daily and every time you start your browser or when you switch from movies to another view and back? I wonder why the developers chose to change this behavior.

I tried working with collections, but the collection view does not show runtimes under the movie thumbnails which is essential for me to determine if I have time to watch a movie or not.

If there’s a filter I’m planning to use repeatedly, I save it as a smart collection.
You could even add that smart collection as a hub on your home screen to have it handy.

Long story short… not really bothered by that behavior.
It’s actually the opposite: I’m not particularly eager to have to reset my filters all the time after I’ve searched my library (which is usually more of a one-time effort).

It seems a bit random to me. The ‘basic’ filters (year, decade, genre, etc) are remembered, but not the advanced filters which are part of the same drop down menu as the basic filters.
