Plex Web: Please fix bad Collections behaviour

  1. my collections do not repeat over and over, not sure how you managed that.
  2. you share a library, it should contain only what you want to share to a user. ie…
kids folder has only age appropriate material = a Plex kids library is share to kids, teens, adults
teen folder has only teen appropriate material = a Plex Teen library is shared to teens and adults
adults folder appropriate material = a Plex Adult library is shared to adults
Each library needs to be set accordingly and each movie must have the correct information including the age rating, collection tags etc… You don’t duplicate movies in folders and have them picked up by different libraries.
  1. The setting are unique by library, collections can be setup and or removed as needed.

If you go through the trouble to digitize a movie/show to add to your media collection. I take the time to make sure that the metadata and file and folder names contain the correct information, I always check what was downloaded and see what tags were added etc… It works with my thousands of movies and the shows.

#3. red-band trailers if enabled should only effect adult movies and that folder.
Turn red-band trailers off.

@nydave69

  1. Because I have the same content in more than one library
  2. I have multiple libraries with some duplicate entries because:

(i) I have a library just for my kids where. I have to have another library which duplicates my kids content because I have some users who do not want to search two libraries for movies
(ii) I have mini libraries that are automatically generated by scripts to create top lists

Your suggested simplistic filing method will still cause multiple Collections to appear e.g. if you put Phantom Menace in kids library, Attack of the clones in teens and Revenge of the Sith in adults - when viewing Revenge of the Sith in the Adults library it will show 3 Star Wars Collections each with 1 movie in! Plus, users of the Adults library would have to click on Revenge of the Sith to find other movies available via the incomplete collections links, or have to search across 3 libraries when looking for something to watch

Again, more good reasons to have a way to disable cross-pollination of Collections across libraries of the SAME type when the delivered behaviour isn’t desirable.

  1. The advanced settings per library are not unique - try it

All my movies (20k+) are tagged correctly - if they weren’t it would be a nightmare. This is why I’m asking for the collections functionality to be improved, as they are a big help when managing a library of this size for varied users.

Searches do go across libraries and even servers.

It works for my library’s that span servers… Changing the way collections work could make a real headache for those of us who have very large libraries…

And at this point I’m going to leave the conversation, point of views have been made.

I’ve just had one of my kids complain about missing collections on the collections tab - they show in the library or movie details page when viewing via a user account with content rating restrictions, but incorrectly not on the libraries tab.

Is there a bug reporting tool hidden somewhere for Plex? Surely @ChuckPa isn’t the only channel?

Suggest you create a new thread with the all the information you can.
Include versions and if you can pictures to show the issues…
