Plex will no longer stream to my 2nd Gen Echo (3rd Gen is fine)

As of last week a baffling situation has arisen. I have 2 Echo Dots, one 2nd Gen, the other 3rd. Up until a week ago, I could open Plex on my Synology NAS via Alexa and stream music to both. Then suddenly, Plex streaming stopped working on the 2nd Gen but still works fine on the 3rd.

Odd things are that all other streaming activities (say from Amazon music, BBC Radio stations and internet radio, eg DASH Radio,) continue to stream perfectly fine on both Dots. Adding further to the bafflement is that Plex still responds on the 2nd Gen up to the point of actually streaming, ie Alexa will say “Welcome back to Plex, what would you like to do” and upon being asked to play music, will respond with “playing music by X”. But then nothing, silence, no stream… Synology’s own NAS music server, Audiostation also works fine on both 2nd and 3rd Gen Dots…

This is not a WiFi signal strength issue, tested that. Also tested each Dot individually, with the other powered off. Both have been reset and added again. Both show up fine in the routers network page, Also have tested 3 different routers.

The problem persists and I’m left without a clue as to why the 2nd Gen dot, whilst working fine with everything else, fails to stream from the Plex NAS server. ?!

The only major change at the time this all started happened was that I changed ISP’s (From BT to Virgin) but given that everything else is still working as it was before the change, with the exception of Plex, I can’t see how that change would result in this Dot specific issue…Suggestions ?

Hi. Have you managed to resolve this as I’ve the same problem with Plex and a Second Gen Echo Dot.

Hi. After some head scratching I disabled the Plex skill in Alexa then reenabled it and hey presto it now works :+1:
