Plex will not add new content

Server Version#: 1.25.2.5319
Player Version#: Plex Server Web

I have rescanned library files and refreshed the metadata. Windows Plex server will not find new content (MP3s) placed into the linked Music library folder. If I create a new library it will find all the old and new. I certainly don’t wish to delete the old library and recreate it every time I add music. That would be a headache for the client programs as well. Is this problem indicative of some know issue? Thanks for your help. I’m not sure how to proceed.

Edit your library
go to the “Add Folders” tab
inspect each folder path which is listed there.

Is one of them

  • not existant anymore
  • not accessible at the moment
  • completely empty

?

If so, remove all folders which fit one of the above criteria.

I did a little searching and I am aware that the naming convention can cause troubles. I do not believe there lies the heart of the problem. Naming convention does not explain why, with no changes on my part, if I create a new (Music) library referencing the same files it miraculously adds them.

Erm, I didn’t mention naming convention in any way above.

Apologies, I didn’t mean to imply. I guess the fact that with no changes on my part, if I create a new (Music) library referencing the same files it miraculously adds them rules out all three of your suggestions.

No it doesn’t.

I create the new library using the same server and files/folders immediately after scanning the library.

Do you have any “old” (i.e. no longer used) paths in the folder list of your existing music library?

I do not. I created the folder yesterday after installing Plex Server. The only thing I did do is upgrade to premium.

Dou organise your music into a folder hierarchy like laid out in here? Adding Music Media From Folders | Plex Support

Or is it rather a bunch of folders full of a loose collection of tracks, with not much structure?

If the latter, yoiu can get some very strange behaviour.

A third possibility could be that your database file has been damaged.

  1. activate debug logging (not ‘verbose’!)
  2. quit Plex Server
  3. wait 1 minute
  4. start Plex Server
  5. wait 5 minutes
  6. fetch log files and attach them here

Or inspect them yourself. Take a look at the recent log files and seek for messages about database corrupt or malformed.
If you find these, you may have to repair your database.

Thanks I’ll do as suggested!

Otto, I did not get results in the logs using the keywords corrupt, error or malformed. i said the heck with it, deleted the problem library and recreated. My concern was having the friends I’ve invited having to fumble through reconnecting the share. I think everything is fine now. Thanks for help, goodnight.
