Plex will not recognize embedded audio language

I have gone through and manually added the correct language tag to the audio stream of a series. Plex refuses to recognize it. VLC recognizes it just fine.

This series has over 100 episodes and manually turning on subs in the web player (im using linux so i dont have other options), is a terrible terrible user experience.

So far the more i have used Plex the less i have liked it. How on earth is it that Plex is still missing so many basic features? Like say turning on subs on a series by series basis, or even for a whole library?

And yes i tried to dance already.

If you changed the language tags of your files, clicking > Analyze inside Plex (for the episode, season, show or library), this will re-load those parameters.

For most users, the auto-selection of audio/subtitle tracks based on the track’s language covers all their use cases. There’s a feature suggestion to allow manually changing the default audio/subtitle tracks for an entire show or to remember the manually set audio/subtitle tracks from the previous episode (if manually changed).

Tried that and the Plex Dance. No dice. However when i do use the analyze button it looks and feels like nothing happens.

I already voted on the first of those feature suggestions.

I would not mind so much if this was a newer service but Plex has been around for over a decade.

Its not news that building a perfect solution for everyone is hard. What i dont understand is why when Plex fails to deal with sub or language configuration on a show it takes 4 clicks to fix manually!? FOR EVERY EPISODE! once every 20 minutes!!!

Do you mean Plex is not picking up the corrected subtitle languages or it’s not changing the selected subtitle?
Auto-selection for audio/subtitle tracks will only apply for items for which you have not yet manually selected an audio/subtitle track.

Plex is not pickup up the corrected audio language. The subs are working fine and Plex seems to have picked up the corrected subs fine, since i had to correct those too. Actually it looks like about 25 episodes in Plex starts correctly reading the audio language and accordingly assigning the subs.

I have setup auto-selection and it works fine. Except when Plex cant tell what the audio language is. (i have plex setup to have subs on non english content)

I have good news and bad news

Good news is i figured out my problem. I had put the remake of my favourite series in to a folder within the directory where my favourite series is stored. Because the two have practically the same name, or because i had manually matched it in Plex, Plex thought that the remake was in fact the first 12 episodes of the series. Which is why when i corrected the name of the series the problem did not go away, since Plex was looking at a different set of files than the ones i was manipulating, this is also why from episode 13 onward everything is fine, because then its looking at the right files.

The bad news is that i have wasted your time Tom80H and for that i am sorry :frowning:

What would be best practice for this situation? Ill mark this as solved but should i replace my initial post with an explanation or just edit it and add one?

Im really sorry, i was having a bad day and really wanted to relax with my favourite series, and after wrestling with the tools to fix my underlying issue in my video files having Plex not reflect these changes no matter what i did was very frustrating.

There are still a lot of things about Plex that really get my goose but i can live with having to make sure my audio streams are correctly labeled (though i still want a hotkey for changing subs in web player and to be able to define language settings by series and library).

Thank you for all your help and patience!
