Select audio and subtitle tracks based on last episode watched of a TV Show in a Library

Altough you can select a default audio and video for your whole account, would not make sense if plex would automatically select the audio and subtitle tracks based on last episode watched of a TV Show in a Library if the user have changed it from their default to a different one?

Example: My default audio is English, but I prefer to watch some TV Shows from my Spanish Library in Spanish (most files are in Dual English and Spanish). Now I have to manually change the language of those TV shows to spanish, for every episode of the show. This is a pain, specially when I’m casting from my phone and auto-play is enabled, since the audio keeps changing to English (the default one).

Let’s see what you think!

PLEASE.
I watch a lot of subtitled shows and having to go back and re-enable the same settings every time, or even just having subtiles on persistently would work for me, as I will always enable them if present, even with English audio since I have a hearing disorder.

It feels like such a basic feature and Plex still doesn’t have it.

Hello,

Currently, when watching a series on Plex and manually changing the audio/subtitle language of an episode, this selection is not retained for the following episodes. With each new episode, the default language is reapplied, forcing the user to change it manually again.

I suggest adding an option to remember the selected language for a given series and automatically apply it to the next episodes.

This would greatly improve the user experience, especially for those who watch series in a language different from the default one set in their account.

Note: There is probably already a feature request for this, but I couldn’t find it. If that’s the case, I apologize for the duplicate.

Edit the series. You can set language preferences for the specific series on the Advanced tab.

Mmmm
I thought you were talking about preferences, I don’t have an option on Android TV on the series to change its language, I have this possibility on the episodes but it’s useless because it has to be configured episode by episode :frowning:

+1 ,这个问题实在让人头疼,确实是这样的,做一个全局设置或者优先级设置,以后所有的剧集或者电影全部按照这个设置来设置语言或者字幕。
+1 , this problem is really a headache, indeed, do a global setting or priority setting, all future episodes or movies all follow this setting to set the language or subtitle.

I went to see the advanced tab part, it changes for the series and force for everyone (library shared with another plex account), it’s not practical… netflix, prime, crunchyroll, keep the language selected for the following episodes. doing the same thing here would be really appreciated

No, it doesn’t. This is just for you.

Mmm ok, it’s can possible to change the language for serie with shared lib, but only on web, on android tv for exemple it’s possible only episode per episode with player settings…

It is therefore not usable, and it is not user friendly. Being able to choose your reading language via an option/keeping the chosen language during reading remains ideal, but it must be available everywhere.

But thx for your reply

So simple, so necessary ! Please do it !

Editing language preferences on the Advanced tab is only available in the Plex Web App and not in other apps like those on Smart TVs, iOS, or Android. Compared to Infuse, Jellyfin, or Emby, which seamlessly remember audio and subtitle settings per series with minimal user effort, Plex’s current approach feels less intuitive and requires manual configuration for each series. A native feature to automatically retain these settings across episodes and apps would greatly improve the user experience.

Better than nothing but like @usrplex said: Bad user experience especially when other plattforms support this.

This have annyoed me for so long.
It seems to be a client thing after I made a deepdive into this.

One would think what im suggesting would work in browser but it does not.

In old ihone app I do following: (not sure same applies for new app and/or android). And not sure what other clients offer this solution.

  1. Got to front page for TV show you want.
  2. Press the three dots next to mark as viewed/download/bookmark and select settings (the cog).
  3. Scroll all the way down and set prefered language and subs as per preference.
  4. Finally choose ”always on” for the last choice, called choose sub automatically or something like that.

Voila! You have now activated your preferences for selected show and it will be activated no matter what client you playback on.

And now after my post above I got curious again and looked into this again. And I think I solved it for all shows.

Open web browser and go settings>account and scroll down to ”audio & subtitle settings” and press edit.
What I have missed here for this to work earlier seems to be that I did not select always enable for the ”auto-select subtitle mode” selection.

So do this:

  1. Tick the box ”automatically select audio and subtitle tracks.
  2. Set preferred audio and sub.
  3. Make sure to set it to always enable for the ”auto-select subtitle mode”.
  4. Finally set deaf and forced as per preference.
