Hi @kruger.claassen, are you using the Windows Store app or the Samsung Smart TV app?
@pombeirp - I did manage to test Movies & TV app on the latest fastlane build and i have the same problem on one file and not on another that has problems playing on the Plex Windows Store app. I didnāt write down the file details but I will get them when I can. I do recall they were both around 30gigs, mkv, h.264, dts audio. I donāt recall the bit rates.

You should try the Smart TV forum, thatās where youāll be most likely to find the knowledgeable people in that area.
Checking in on this thread again. Itās now been almost 6 months from my original post and the Windows store plex app still performs like crap. I try it out from time to time just to see if its been resolved but always end up getting angry and just using the web player because of pauses, freezes in what iām watching. I have and use Plex on Ios, Android, and Samsung smart tv and no client is as unstable as the windows one.
Should I just move on and pretend there isnāt a Windows store plex app, remove it so i stop trying it and being annoyed or is there actually going to be a stable native app that compares with the others platforms coming soon?
Iām no programmer but Windows app development must suck or something.
@amcghie: There are known problems with the media player we use on the Windows 8.1 app (weāve reported every single one of them to Microsoft). Theyāve advised us to use a different approach for a Windows 10 app, and the prototype results are encouraging. I canāt promise you dates, but stay tuned as this is definitely not something we forgot.
Iām just chiming in to get updates if thereās a resolution to this issue. Video loads a couple of seconds, freezes, then refuses to play in the windows store app. Chrome runs just fine. Iām running the files from a Freenas Jail, and have tried it on an AMD A8, An intel i5 with integrated graphics, and a desktop with an i7 5820k and nvidia graphics, all of them still freeze on the app but play fine in chrome.
Iām so glad I found this topic.
TBH, Iām so pissed every single time it freeze. As the app still running into the problem, I suggested direct play to be turned off by default.
Though, watching on web is an option but chrome only installed on C: drive which is mine SSD.
And thatās burn SSDās life pretty fast. While on windows app, I still can choose it to install on my hard disk drive and save my ssd life.
Iām new to Plexā¦so encountering this bug did not make me very happy, even though Iām pleased with overall features and looks and the functionality on my SHIELD device, Android phone and Webapp⦠Iāve tested the Wihndows app before buying, but the one minute of playback was not enough to encounter this issue. Now it appears the app is useless.
As the problem was not present pré 1511 build (or something)⦠can I obtain any version anywhere without the issue?
Hoping to get an answer that can help me actually use a product I had to pay forā¦
Have terrible stuttering and freezing video on my Surface Pro 4. Even with the brand new version of the W10 app they released today. Are there any workaround or anything that make the app usable?
Same problem with app in Win10 on Surface Pro 4 (i5) over AC wifi and FAST desktop on Gigabit wired ethernet, both have new version of app. Same workaround - use webui in Chrome.

Seeing same with Win 10 on both my Surface Pro 3 (wireless 5G/AC) and my Intel NUC (wired/gigabit). Chrome webui plays seamlessly on both.
Still have the same issue, App on windows 10 from the app store. Have the playing it though the app on the server PC (which has really good specs). No issue playing though the web client on the same PC same movies though.
Hi @pombeirp
Could you please confirm that the latest WIn 10 app supposed to no longer stutter once Windows is updated to the new Anniversary update (10.14393). It seems to be working here ok, but Iāve only just updated and played with Plex for a few minutes, so I could be lucky.
@Wigster: the work to migrate to the new video player stack hasnāt started yet. Not sure if something was done on Microsoftās side to improve things though, could very well be.
I have updated my Surface Pro 4 to the āAnniversary Versionā of Windows 10 (Iām not sure of the version number). When I ran the Plex app and started an episode, it stuttered for the first few seconds, then smoothed out completely. Iām going to try again in the next few days to see if itās all fixed.
Iāve done some tests with forcing the server to transcode the audio to AAC 5.1 and it seems to side-step the whole issue. I was getting really bad stuttering on a certain show even on Windows 10 Anniversary Update, and with this change it plays smoothly. Iāll be publishing a new release later today. Looking forward to your feedback!

I just got that update. Is there anything I need to do on my server to get this to work correctly? After installing the latest update the app is just about unusable. Even worse than before. Constant buffering and error messages.
@snayers: the workaround asks for a transcode to AAC 5.1. If your server is not powerful enough to convert the audio in real-time, youāll see buffering. What error messages are you seeing?
I see now in your other thread you say you have a high-end server. Iād need to see the logs for the app to see whatās going on.
