Plex Windows app won't open - Windows 11

When I try to open the Windows Plex player in Windows 11, the icon appears in the task bar, but the app will not expand when the icon is clicked on and I cannot get the app to appear/open.

It just sits in the task bar and indicates that it is either minimised or maximised (if you click on it), but won’t actually appear.

Plex is available and working on all my other devices.

I have tried to re-load and update, but to no avail.

Any ideas?

I suppose you had the app last time open while the computer was connected to an external/different screen.

Use the windows keyboard combo to move the app to a different screen. (Make sure that Plex “has the focus” when trying the key combo.)

Thanks for the reply.

I tried this, but it didn’t work. This combo did work with other windows (chrome, outlook), but it did not have any effect on the Plex icon. I tried it with one and two screens connected.

Window location is stored in plex.ini in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Plex.

  1. Quit Plex for Windows.
  2. Make a backup copy, plex.ini.bak.
  3. Edit plex.ini and delete the ui section.
  4. Launch Plex for Windows.

It should be in the middle of the default screen, like when first installed. Screen location and window size will be saved when you exit the app.

From plex.ini:

[ui]
windowX=167
windowY=69
windowWidth=1536
windowHeight=828
windowStates=0
screen=\\\\.\\DISPLAY1

That worked. Brilliant! Thank you.
