Plex wiping metadata... locked metadata!

Server Version#:
Player Version#:4.28.1

I’ve loaded a web series. The series is not in theTVDB … it is in IMDB. It is not matching. So I edited the metadata to add titles, dates etc. Each time it refreshes … the title is wiped. The rest of the data is retained. This is a locked field. Isn’t the lock supposed to actually lock the data?

If you haven’t already, try performing a Fix Match for the series and changing Search Options → Agent to Personal Media Shows. This should cause the series to be matched using that agent, so future refreshes should leave its metadata alone.

I’m not sure if this will cause your current metadata to be forgotten, so you may want to make sure you have a current database backup to fall back on, if necessary.

It’s likely the attempt to re-match it causes the lock to be ignored. I’m not sure why it would retain the other fields though.

Thank you. I’ll give ‘fix match’ a try.

Oddly… there is no ‘fix match’ option for tv shows. The options are slightly different than for movies. I selected ‘match’ and then … while it appeared to be matching … I noted two options at top of the box … ‘search options’ and ‘auto match’. Search options contains several fields including the agent drop down. Auto match contains only the same three agents within the ‘search options’ agent drop down. Which one would be appropriate to change?

If you have to Fix Match your file name is probably preventing a Natural Match and without one of those Locking those fields doesn’t do anything. If Plex goes looking for a Match for a file it can’t identify - there goes your edits.

TV Shows are ‘Matched/Fixed’ at the Show Level only.

@pshanew has the answer

What is the name of this show?

Sorry, I should have said Match, not Fix Match. Click Search Options and then change the Agent to Personal Media Shows. You shouldn’t need to change any of the other fields.

That’s a good question. If it’s a web series of a “real” TV show, it may be listed as a special for that show on TheTVDB (BSG had some of these, as did Warehouse 13 and others).

We ‘veterans’ may be able to dig something out of TVDB mere mortals might miss…

I’m experiencing the same thing with Music files. I’m testing the “Fix Match” to see if it will stick this time. I’m noticing it especially after a Plex Dance is performed to correct a completely different album!

Hi ,

I am experiencing the same problem only with movie’s. Is there a solution for this ? It looks like te same problem as you have.
