Plex with DVD's?

Having Plex display DVD movies or TV in the Movie section
Hey there, just started using Plex for our entertainment center, and I gotta say, loving it greatly!

So here is my question:

Other than files on a nice hard-drive, we have a rather extensive DVD movie and TV collection. Is there any way for me to add the movie or tv so that it displays in Plex without having the actual file?

So if I have Firefly on DVD, when I open up the "Watch Your TV Shows", it will display information about Firefly, including episodes. There are no files of it on a hard-drive, just the information about them?

Sorry if this is roundabout, but it's the best way I could think to ask.

Much thanks in advance!

Well yes there is a way to create a catalog of sorts for your DVD collection. Check out this How-to over at the the XBMC Wiki.

Enjoy!

I LOVE tricking my computer.

Not sarcastic at all, I actually do. Thanks so much!

Not sure if this still works but in XBMC I found it was possible to make the fake file a jpg image (but keep the .avi extension) and then if you played it it displayed the image so you could create images with catalogue numbers, storage details such as DVD 21 Shelf 1 and know where to go find the DVD you wanted to play

This is the wrong section for this, but anyways...I have a mencoder script that will create a 10 second avi out of the jpg. This is what I do for all of my DVDs since I keep them numbered in a huge book.
