So… First post to this forum. I’ve been using Plex for some basic use for some time. I just got a Nvidia Shield TV to use with my HTPC plex server. I have a HDHomerun Prime for live TV. Couple things that I’ve noted so far and the question that sprang from them…
PIP… Picture in Picture on the android TV (Nvidia Shield) app seems to invoke just fine. However, once in, I can’t seem to find my way back out. How do you recover from PIP? The only way that I can get it out of PIP is to force stop the app.
Guide: I don’t see any way to go directly to a channel - either by name or channel number? Is there something that I’m missing?
Guide: Plex doens’t seem to remember where I was last in the guide when I get out of Plex and come back in. Seems like it should. Have I missed something here?
Guide: There doesn’t seem to be anyway to filter the guide - i.e. Categories etc. Again, something I’m missing or Plex just doesn’t have this capability?
i got stuck in a PiP loop and had to eventually force stop plex before i could regain control. it ended up with the plex app itself being PiP over the main shield interface.
Exactly the behavior (and unfortunate remedy) that I’m experiencing. Perhaps I’m not missing something (button combination/trick) after all.
After engaging PIP, go to the main Shield screen - in other words, hit the home button. The top of the main screen and the notifications area will have controls for the PIP video where you can restore it to full screen or close it. Trying to re-open Plex will put it in a weird state where it will end up doing nothing.
If you engaged PIP and went back to the Plex live TV guide, the only way to restore the video (and close it) is to re-select the program / channel in the guide.
Thanks for the details. I’ve played around with it and what you described seems to work to some extent. I still seem to be able to get to a point where I can’t recover from PIP. I tried to restore full screen after going back to the Plex guide per your instruction (re-selecting the program/channel), but that didn’t work. I just got stuck in PIP. It seems like you’ve got one shot to use the notification to restore full screen. If you don’t take it, it seems you are lost forever. PIP implementation appears to need more work - at least from what I can tell.
I’m having the same issues with PIP. It makes browsing the live tv guide a pain in the butt. It makes plex dumb to use for me, I think I’ll use a different app until they fix this.
Same, I have the Shield TV and whenever I activate PIP I have to go to main screen, select a different app, which doesn’t always open a different app. Last time it reopened plex but pip was finally gone and was able to continue as normal.
