When I use the back button to re-display the Live TV program guide on the Nvidia Shield TV app, the Picture-in-Picture (PIP) window in upper right is always blank for my OTA stations. This used to work when I first started using the Android based app (March 2022). If I use Plex Live TV on my ROKU device, the PIP function works. My backend is a Windows based Plex server.
Is this a known issue on Android TV based app ? Anyone else seeing this behavior ? I started using Nvidia Shield over my ROKU because the OTA channels load and display faster (better performance), but PIP doesn’t work for me on Android TV app.
My Nvidia Shield Android TV SW version is still on 8.2.3, I never updated to 9.1.1
Based on looking at other posts that go ignored in the ‘android-tv’ and ‘livetv-dvr’, tags, it looks like the Android TV player is pretty much ongoing betaware and using it is WYSIWYG. I bought the lifetime Plex Pass for Plexamp (which is totally awesome and actively supported). Live TV and DVR works good on mobile and Android TV works for the most part. It just seems PIP for OTA channels on Nvidia Shield should work. It works great on my ROKU, but ROKU performance (loading channels) is way too slow compared to the more high powered Nvidia Shield streamers.
This is turning into an ignored client as far as Shield is concerned.
This really is a shame, having so much potential from the hardware side of things but being let die by the dev team, if there even is one still working on this.
FYI, I just updated my Nvidia Shield TV Plex app player with the latest version (9.28.0 - Aug 1st) and the ‘Picture-in-Picture’ is working now for my OTA guide channels.
My current levels are now:
Server Version#: 1.32.5.7349 (Windows based)
Player Version#: 9.28.0.3162 w/Nvidia Shield TV (8.2.3)
