Plex won't automatically use AC3 track on LG TV

Server Version#: Current
Player Version#: Current

We just bought an LG 4K 65" TV and Plex is installed. Most of my movies and TV shows have both AAC (track 1) and AC3 5.1 (track 2). However, when I start one of these videos, Plex always uses the AAC track instead of the AC3 track, and I have to manually select the AC3 track for the 5.1 audio. I have the TV connected to my Onkyo 5.1 receiver via Toslink optical audio cable, so I would like to know if there’s a setting on LG Plex to use the AC3 track as the default option.

Plex picks the first audio track that matches your language selections.

Plex remembers the audio selection on a file by file basis, so the next time you play the same movie/episode, you should not have to re-select the AC3 5.1 audio track.

There is no server or client setting to tell Plex to prefer one format over another. Plex also ignores if the default flag is set for a particular audio track.

One possible workaround is to remux your files, to make the AC3 track the first listed audio track. You can use tools such as MKVToolNix, XMedia Recode, or FFMPEG (CLI based).

Thanks for the information. The original Plex Home Theater also behaved like this until I put a feature request in, so I will do the same for the WebOS version.
