So im quite the idiot when it comes down to specific computer topics. Please help me though and be aware i might not understand all abbreviations for some specific computer topics.
To my problem:
I love the plex media server and it works fine with my computers where i installed it onto. However on my synology i downloaded pöex and it says its running. When i open plex it wont show the synology server. Furthermore somehow i cant search for a new server neither (at least i cant find that option in the pöex web app).
On my ds218play from synology i have enabled plex to write and read data and firewall is off.
If this is a newly installed server that’s not yet linked to your account you need to make sure to complete the setup. In order to do that you’ll need to open the server through it’s local IP address (http://[Synology-IP-Address]:32400/web). When opening that URL for the first time, Plex will display a dialog to e.g. name your server, link it to your Plex account and (optionally) to create your first libraries.
Only after you have claimed / linked that server with your account it can also be accessed through other apps or the hosted Plex Web app (https://app.plex.tv/desktop).
Edit: The background/idea for that “complexity” is to avoid anybody who comes to your home being able to administrate your server. Until you have linked it to your account, the server has no chance of knowing who is authorized to do that (or not).
Thanks for the quick answer.
I tried that adress. However with the ip of the synology server i still get into the main menu of the plex web app and it wont dispöay the synoöogy server nor would it attempt to search for a new server
Any solutions for that problem?
Note that im avcessing the plex web app and the synology server thrpugh a computer that i had previously had installed the plex media server on windows. However i deinstalled it as i wanted to use synology swrver only
Tried that method now.
Still im getting after login directly to the main page of plex saying only 'get your plex media server’however what wouldnt work on the synology is the renaming that preferences. In synology file station i donot have a plex file.
Cant i somehow search manually from the plex web for my server, like to initiate the process? I mean other that the way with ‘ip adress:32400’.
Out of curiosity i tried on a laptop the same process and didnt work. Downloaded there the windows plex media server and it immediately directed me to add that new server. So its gotta be smth on the synology that prohibits the access or smth?
What on earth am i doing wrong?
Its my second synology. And since years i failed to connect it with plex so far. No idea what i am doing wrong here.
Tried even a new plex account with the same result. More or less to tell me to get the plex media server.
Im completely overwhelmed now.
I did nothing else than i did the other 100 times. deleted plex again for the 100th time and reinstalled it an somehow it was found for whatever reason there is. i was just more or less getting ready to take the screenshots. i was honestly getting already desperate
however when i try adding now a media it doesnt find anything. whats that for a new challenge now?
