Plex will not connect using Synology

Server Version#: 64 bit from Plex downloaded on 18th
Player Version#:

I have a Synology DS1815+ and installed the 64bit version from Plex download site 2 days ago and manually installed as suggested by a post on these forums. It successfully installed. However, when I try to open it, it will open another window within my browser (as intended, I assume) and I get the following;

This site can’t be reached

dmediaplex.com refused to connect.

ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

I have searched through this forum and have found several similar issues but not any that i believe address my specific issue. This is the first time I have attempted to use a 3rd part application and while I can get around fairly well, I am not tech savy. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Actually had Plex installed as mentioned in my first post. I installed it from the Plex DL site, the 64bit v for Synology. THE VERSIONINSTALLED N MY SYNOLOGY IS 1.13.5.5332

The error I posted was a result of my sonic wall not allowing port 34200. I have that now resolved.

My current issue is when I open Plex from the Synology the web browser opens and now i can sign in. However, once signed in, on the left side, it keeps searching for the Server but gets no result. The following is what is listed:

“A server could not be found. Download and install Plex Media Server, and it will appear here.”

Again, I have looked everywhere for a soltuion…no idea why it cannot discover the Plex Server installed on the Synology. Currently I am accessing the Synology interface from my Laptop and launching plex from the Synology which opens the new browser page. I’m new to plex and I’m certain I’m missing something b ut no idea what.

Please do the following:

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Open File Station
  3. Navigate to the Plex share.
  4. Navigate down until you see Logs
  5. Right-click Logs then Compress to Logs.zip
  6. Attach the ZIP file it gives you for examination.

The log is attached.

Thank you very much for your help.

tmp_transcoding.zip (155 Bytes)

tmp_transcoding is not Logs

Logs can be found under

Plex / Library / Application Support / Plex Media Server

This should be it.

Thank you

Logs.zip (780 KB)

  1. Make certain all browser plug-ins are disabled (temporarily)
  2. Stop PMS on the Synology
  3. Open File Station
  4. Delete file Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Preferences.xml
  5. Start PMS
  6. In an Private/In-Cognito window, open http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web
  7. You will be greeted by the Sign-in and Setup wizards
  8. Proceed normally through it.
  9. When you “Finish” and arrive at the dashboard, you will see it creating the library section.

I followed your instructions as best I could. Don’t know what I may have done wrong.

I deleted the preferences file

I stopped everything I could find on IE and used it

Don’t know what you mean by…… “In an Private/In-Cognito window, open [http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web](http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web)

But I signed into plex and this is what I have been getting….continues searching…..

your screenshot shows it all.

You’re trying to access it via a domain name. — Stop that. It’s not yet initialized.

The synology must be on your LAN, on the same subnet as you. It must have an IP address compliant with RFC1918 (192.168.x.x, 172.16.x.x-172.31.x.x, and 10.x.x.x)

I too have the same problem. Accessing the Synology via 192.168.0.250:32400/web/index.html (from 192.168.0.12) brings up the main page which then just spins looking for a server. All worked fine yesterday evening. Nothing has changed in the meantime.

Something changed, now to find out what.

  1. with all plug-ins disabled.
  2. Open an in-cognito/private browser window,
  3. Now open the http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/web

If this fails, using File Station, Drill into the Plex share until you see Logs. Right-click and Compress to Logs.zip. Attach the ZIP here for examination.

http://ip.addr.of.syno:32400/webgives a page which just spins looking for servers. Log is attached.Logs.zip (2.1 MB)

Please restart DSM (and will restart PMS).

Let it run 60 seconds then grab the logs manually again

I’m not seeing your network adapters listed and they should be.

Here you go.Logs.zip (2.0 MB)

It looks like you’ve overloaded it with Plug-ins. As soon as they start, it starts timing out.

I would like you to conduct this verification:

  1. Stop PMS
  2. Open the Plex share
  3. Rename Library to Library.keep (we’re saving your current metadata & configuration)
  4. Start PMS
  5. Now perform a setup as if a new server but give it a new “testing” name which is obvious to you.
  6. Start adding again slowly, beginning with DVR and media
  7. After all media and DVR operational, verify full operation.
  8. Now you can add your plugi-ins, very carefully

If this results in a working system, then somehow your database became corrupted below where it can be detected & reported.

If it fails, the last thing you did will help isolate the problem.

If you can’t setup a new server, none of it is a Plex problem. Perhaps the Synology firewall?

That appears to have fixed it. How the database got corrupted I have no idea.

When all data is fully repopulated and you’ve verified it’s back:

  1. Delete Library.keep
  2. Delete the old server instance from “Devices”
  3. Rename the Test server to take its place.
