new to plex - i have a variety of movies dowloaded to my pc with various file types (MP4/MKV/AVi etc) - some of each type of file will play via plex, whilst some will not - unsure how to resolve, any help or advice for a layman would be hugely appreciated!
all files comes up with common error -
error code S1001 (network)
none will open using VLC, Wimdows MP
none of the files work via plex desktop or app
thanks
Are you trying to view these movies on the same PC on which they are stored? And on this PC none of the files play in any of your listed media players? VLC will play darn near anything so something significant may be amiss
thats whats odd - some of the MP4 files, will play whilst some will not - likewise for MKV and AVI files
yes - playing on the same pc they are stored
If VLC can’t play them I would suspect that there is something wrong with the files themselves. Are you familiar with MediaInfo?
not at all
OK, well good news is that it is free and straightforward for most users. What it does is to look at the media files contents and presents you with a simple overview of what is in the file/container. mp4/mkv are containers which can have some different contents related to audio, video, subtitles etc

Some reading.
To examine your file contents I suggest you download and install mediainfo.
thanks - will give it a go
is there anyway to repair the corrupt files?
Depends on whether the files corrupted, some part missing. Frequently though, yes. They can be fixed. Handbrake is a useful tool for that
