Plex will not update to latest version and aborts towards the end of the install, saying my Plex software is too old to update. I tried downloading the standalone update and it still will not update. I am concerned because I received an email that says the DVR function will not work unless I update Plex at the end of the month.
First, I just update 3 servers today from that version to 1.16.0.1226 so 1.15 is not too old.
But, the version you need to update to is version 1.16.1 (something), it is a Plex Pass only version so you would need to change your update channel to “Beta”.
Browse the forums, several issues with the first go around, they just released another beta to try fix the first mess.
Also, some things may need to be done with any scheduled recordings you have (seems it may wipe them out).
There must be something wrong with my Plex software. I changed the settings to allow “Beta” updates. Now, I can get Plex version 1.16.1.1273 to show up, which won’t install either. PLex just goes into an endless cycle of “downloading update…Installing update…back to Version 1.15.6.1079”, whenever I try to update it. I wonder if I should try to uninstall Plex with Revo and start from scratch or something?
The un-installation of Plex through the App worked! I was able to install the latest version of Plex. Not sure why I had to do that, but it worked. Since I turned the Beta channel on, there is a newer version that I went ahead and installed. Hopefully, the Beta version is not buggy.
