Plexamp 3.0 desktop: no more casting to it?

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2645
Player Version#: 3.0 plexamp on ubuntu 18.04

For desktop use: when my screen hibernates, the plexamp desktop continues to play music, that’s all good. I usually keep a device (phone) lying around with plex android open to control playlist, volume, etc. via plex casting TO the plexamp instance on my desktop.

With plexamp-3.0, I’ve lost this capability, now we need to wake up the desktop to basically do anything. The desktop player no longer is recognized as cast-able.

I suppose this behavior is intentional, and this function is not coming back?

Anyway, love the new look and radio functions. The android version is great for taking remote, so far has been working well for me.

best -bruce.

Yep, we wanted to make local playback awesome first, before doing casting in either direction.

Thanks for the kind words!

Casting in multiple directions sounds almost to me like multi-room is coming, so please do proceed.

thanks

Yeah but it broke my ability to control my whole home audio solution that I have running on raspberry Pi Zero’s. :frowning: I never thought it would move that far backwards that I’d be without my whole home audio solution.

Hope the feature will be back soon. I am using Plex app on my mobiles to remote control my HTPC with Plexamp (no need to turn on TV).

So for me the update to v3 is useless.

Plexamp 3 is awesome for mobile, I have been taking it on my bike rides (no VIZ lol), enjoying it alot.

Would be nice to throw playlist back to my plexamps when getting home, there’s a raspberry pi in the garage (plexamp 2) and a debian laptop on the porch (plexamp 1) each wired to hifi sets where I do most of my listening. Basement has the ubuntu desktop (plexamp 3) with all the bells/whistles. The tahitian pearls VIZ is amazing blown up big, even my wife stops by to look at it.

Anyway, yes full on casting multi room would be so great, I can feel it’s going to be soon… so right on keep up the good work plex guys.

Hey… love the plexamp 3.0 design and functions. But as others have said, I have very limited use for it, since I can’t use plexamp 3 as a target for remote control of other speakers throughout my home attached to RaspberyPi’s or Linux-based desktop. So continuing with the older version.

Hopefully that will change in future release.

Thanks for all your efforts… I love the Plex product line!

I never had the opportunity to target Plexamp and installed it for that reason only to read now that it was removed :p.
Anyway I’m fine for the wait but I’m looking forward to it as I want to integrate it with HiFiBerryOS so I can finally get my Plex music on it without complicated workarounds :D…

I don’t care about casting, but I do care about one of the main feautures advertised when PlexAmp debuted in the labs: remote control aka “Plex Companion

Being able to use PlexAmp to control playback of music on any other Plex client and the ability for itself to be controlled by any other client is one of the primary use-cases for PlexAmp.

Plexamp 3.0.3 is better and is a very great job, I use plex maintly for music. But with Plex 3 there is no more remote control (from my phone plex app to my audio system). Plex Remote control from/to any client / player / from any devices (ios / android client, browser web app / TV app) is essential please roll back this feature, we need this more than visualisation

Since last posting, I have learned the official name for the remote-controlling ability is “Plex Companion

It was mentioned in another thread that it’s coming. Hopefully soon, because for me lack of this feature is a complete show-stopper.

Lots of people use the old Plexamp cast feature, so useful. Too bad that this essentiel feature that work ok is removed on the new Plexamp v3, copy & pastle back the lines code in your source repository please. Hope a new build with the cast feature soon. Thanx again for this great work, Plexamp is now my main music player as winamp was

Is this still in the works?

I switched back to PlexAmp 1.1 on my desktop because my main use is to control music playing in Plex on my Roku at the other end of the room. I hope this version keeps working with current Plex Media Server versions until you get the functionality reinstated.

I’m also on Plexamp 1.1, waiting for the feature to reappear in 3.x .

Plexamp last update got remote control back. Thanx a lot it is now my main music player !

Seems like we can only cast from plexamp in version 3.2.0, not to it :frowning:

baby steps. we’ll add back controllability as well.

Please add a simple systemd service for raspberry pi, too. So we can all enjoy the great “sweet fading” feature from plexamp on the “big amp”
