out on the bike trail get a mix going for the ride (android)
come home & throw that mix to continue playing on the PI in the garage.
later come inside, sit at the desktop, run plexamp, I am able to proactively grab the same mix from the garage PI and keep it going on the big speakers in the office.
Pretty nice improvement I have to say. The next very impressive thing will be the ability to keep the mix going on multiple players? Come on, that’s the next step right?
Thanks plex for keeping things interesting in these times.
ditto, keep the good work up my dudes. can’t wait to see how the app will look this time next year, great start with big potential with little bit likes this polished off
Based on this discussion, I’m assuming the ability to cast to Plexamp v3 for desktop is still in the works (i.e. Plexamp desktop as a ‘receiver’ app).
My scenario is to be able to cast from mobile iOS Plexamp -> Plexamp for Windows running on a headless Windows machine. This headless server is connected to my main stereo system (via USB out). Request for this function is the desire to have ‘sweet fades’ function on my main stereo system as well.
Looking forward to this support for Plexamp for Windows.
Trying to use my iPhone to cast to my Windows 10 PlexAmp 3.4.0, however this Windows 10 PC that’s connected to my DAC and home system doesn’t show up in the list of Players. So, I’m guessing this feature hasn’t been added back in. Frustratingly, there is still no gapless playback in the standard Plex Media Player for Windows nor the Plex for Windows. So, there’s no way to remotely play DJ Sets, Classical, Live Shows, etc. on my main system that is gapless. I’ve just signed up for the monthly Plex Pass in the hope to solve the gapless problem. However, now I can’t cast from my iPhone or from my upstairs PC for that matter. Are there any imminent solutions to either one of these?:
Gapless playback on:
a. Plex for Windows
b. Plex Media Player
Casting to Windows Plexamp
Look, I’ll buy a lifetime Plex Pass tomorrow if you guys can sort this out. Your concept and SW are really awesome and I’m ready to pay for it. However, I must admit it’s really strange to see the capability to remotely control the Hubble Telescope but I can’t get Winamp level (gapless flac) fuctionality on a player I can cast to at present.
There are countless things Elan has said are coming (in the same way he mentioned companion support) that have been missing now for 3, 5, 7 or even more, years.
Given the feature was already there in a previous incarnation, the fact it’s not there now means it’s not a priority nor a design goal.
Sure, perhaps the feature wasn’t/isn’t at the top of the priorities list, but it’s definitely on the list. Plexamp 3 isn’t even a year old yet, but take a look at the changelog to see how much it has been improved in that short time.
I understand your frustration, but Plexamp is a labour of love, developed in Plex employees’ spare time. Have a little bit of patience and trust that the people building it want to see it grow and improve, too.
I recently discovered Plexamp and it has quickly become my ‘go to’ player. I would love to be able to cast to another Plexamp or Plex Player, ideally these would be hosted on a Rasp Pi 4. I have been using these to drive a multi-zone system in my house and office. I’m reading conflicting things regarding this feature. Can you clarify your strategy and timeline?
Hi! Is Plexamp-v2.0.0-rPi-beta.2 working for you? I’ve been getting this error for some time now. No clients can connect. Do you know a hotfix for it?

This would be great to have Plexamp to Plexamp casting. Something, I noticed yesterday I am able to cast from my Android Plexamp 3.4.7 to the Plex Media Player on Mac OS or Plex Web App. So for me at least, I can leave the house listen to a mix, get in the house and cast to my computer with the nicer speakers and keep listening.
When I sit at the computer and want control back. I just disconnect mobile app, and open Plexamp on computer.
For those that want to cast from a Phone using Plexamp to a computer. It is possible and works really well.
Just download and install Plex Media Player app. Plexamp on phone, connect to Plex Media Player and Good to go. Or open up PlexWeb app and connect Plexamp on your phone to the web Player. Good to go.
Please, bring the Plexamp to Plexamp casting capability, and do it soon.
Plexamp keeps getting better and better. This is what I want to achieve: leave it running on an Atom netbook connected to my DAC in the living room as an alternative to LMS.
Plexamp does gapless and Tidal and Chromecast (but no gapless there, blame it on Chromecast), so it’s just one step away from becoming my all around audio solution. From the time I bought lifetime subscription, thinking “this is what I need for video, sadly, their audio efforts are lukewarm” to the current state of Plex, you’ve come a long way in the right direction. Take this step already.
