Plexamp casting to still not supported in 3.2.0?

I read that casting has been added back in to Plexamp 3.2.0 but can’t get it to work. I’m wondering if it hasn’t actually been added back, or if I’m missing something…?

Plexamp 3.2.0 running on my iPad, trying to cast to my Mac Mini running Plexamp 3.2.0. The target just doesn’t appear.

If I reinstall Plexamp 1.1 for MacOS I can cast to it fine.

It appears that casting has only half been added back. Is this the case? If so, is the remaining functionality being worked on?

Thanks.

It’s coming.

Thank you. Appreciate all the work on Plexamp.

And at least I know I’m not going mad, or at least not in this particular case.

From Plexamp I am able to ChromeCast, thank you. But I am not able to PlexCast, I can see the Plex Client to which I want to cast, but when I select it nothing happens. Otto I read above that it is coming, I wanted to add a little additional detail.

I am using PlexAmp 3.2.0 with clients on either Windows 10 or iOs14. I find that when casting to my Sonos (1) system most “Stations” (mood, style, etc) work perfectly. Thanks for that! However “Artist Radio” plays only the first track and then stops. Artist radio works fine from either device if NOT casting. Would love to see the end of that bug!

Same here! iOS 14.0.1 and tvOS 14.0.1.

Chiming in here. After a great start with casting from Plexamp however I am now unable to connect to any cast devices. Google home display says “sorry something went wrong”. Plex player says " an error occurred loading items to play". Also cannot connect to chromecast audio. This occurs on both Android 11 and iOS 14.0. Help might be needed.

This is an issue that’s been reported before, and is actually a Sonos integration problem, not a Plexamp one. You’ll notice it affects all other Plex clients when casting to Sonos, too.

No word on when it’ll be resolved, but it’s been reported to the devs

My problem is definitely not Sonos related as I don’t have any Sonos equipment. From my Pixel 3XL I am now unable to cast to anything Google cast or Plex cast. With Google cast I get the connection chime but no connection and Plex cast fails immediately. These both worked seamlessly this time last week. What could be going on? BTW the Android Plex app has no problems connecting.

UPDATE took some updates overnight and things seem better.
Oh why do I ever post, it’s the bleeding edge.

Thanks for working on it plexsters.

Plexcast seems broken entirely.

I have plexamp-1.0 (linux) and plexamp-2 (raspberry pi) running in various places around the house.

I can no longer cast to any of them from plexamp3, plex webUI, nor from the plex android app. This was all working but suddenly broke with a recent update I assume.

Hoping for a fix, else it’s back to the squeezeboxes again.

Well eventually solved my issues by uninstalling Plexamp from my Pixel 3 and then reinstalling. Not only did this sort out my Android woes but, rather bizarrely, sorted out the connection issues I was having with my iPad as well. Anyway I’m a happy bunny again.

Just for anyone visiting this thread, its about casting to PlexAmp not from. Since version 3 casting to hasn’t been supported. Some (many?) of us use this to control Plex from an iPad/iPhone etc to play on a home hifi system, often connected to a media PC/Mac.

The current solution is to continue running v.1 on your PC/Mac, which still works great.

hey @page3 just wanted to give a little tid-bit here after your comment. In regards to a connected media PC, you can cast & control to Plex WEB from Plexamp. You need to sign in to PlexWeb for Plexamp to see it as a castable device. It’s not the exact answer your looking for, but hopefully it’s something to get you by… to me it’s no different than casting to Roku since Plexamp technically isn’t on Roku.
Hopefully this helps, cheers!

That’s a great tip, thanks.

Does PlexWeb support volume leveling and sweet fades? Wonder why they turned off casting to PlexAmp? If I am running Plexamp on PC, I can see and cast from Plexamp to iphone running Plex, but not the other way around as you pointed out.

No.

It was not turned off. Plexamp 3 simply doesn’t support being controlled, yet.

I think that they indeed turned casting to plexamp off because earlier I was able to cast from plexamp 3.x to plexamp 2.0 on raspberry pi4. Then after an update plexamp can’t find older plexamp on raspberry that used to work before. Although plexapp on android and web interface can still cast to plexamp 2.0 on raspberry. Others seem to have the same problem.

Plexamp 3 is a complete rewrite on an entirely different technology stack. It wasn’t “turned off”, it simply hasn’t been added yet to 3.

Being unable to control Plexamp 2 seems like a bug. Could you provide some more details of what’s happening there?

I don’t know whats going on I’ve done fresh installs on all hardware but the server and it’s not working. Used to work about a month ago but not anymore thus I thought casting to any plexamp type player was disabled with an update. Oh and in the screenshots 0Plexamp is the pi one.

I also have 5 wall mounted android tablets that all used to work but now show the same symptoms as my phone. I have one tablet that is not used so often and mostly off and thus plexamp version/settings are older on boot.

Week ago I booted it and at first plexamp on it showed plexamp on the pi as a castable device but in few seconds it just disappeared. I quess settings or app version got updated after boot and the problem started.

I use plexamp on the pi because I can use homeautomation on it voice, buttons, sensors can initiate and alter playback. So when pi plexamp starts playback, all the tablets open plexamp showing and enabling control of the pi’s playback queue.

This used to work and was cool as hell, but now it doesn’t work. Good thing is that plexapp and webinterface works for casting to pi and automations work too but not so cool anymore on the wallmounted tablets. Casting music from plexamp is so much smoother than from plexapp or web interface.

Forgive me if you’ve already tried this, but it looks like the list of “castable” devices in Plexamp is truncated. The symptom of the device appearing and disappearing quickly lines up with the behaviour of the list populating. Have you tried scrolling down inside the cast dialog?
