Plexamp 3 Bug Report

Did you add Tidal content to your music library?

No. Not really sure what Tidal is. *EDIT * Just looked and see it’s like Spotify, but never used it.

I would like to add that I am having the same issue with Genre radio. When I choose a genre such as Easy Listening it jumps to the same list of genres with a black background. Then I proceed to choose again easy listening radio and it tries to start but I just get a black now playing screen with a spinning circle. I have tried it on Android and Mac OS. On Mac I let it spin for a couple hours but it never started. I have over 1,000 albums in the easy listening genre and all are properly tagged.

This happens with many genres but not all genres. Some work fine, some don’t. Does it have to be a genre that matches a genre in musicbrainz? Apparently not, because Beat Radio works for me but Beat is not in the genre list (it’s a very common term for early to mid-60s European rock 'n roll including The Beatles early records). And Bossa Nova Radio doesn’t work for me yet it is in the genre list on Musicbrainz.

It doesn’t seem related to the number of albums in any genre. I have more albums in the Blues genre than in the Easy Listening genre and Blues Radio starts immediately.

Library, TT, Random Album, Mood, and Decade Radio all work for me, as well as Mix Builder.

I’m loving the new Plexamp but I hope you can fix the Genre Radio because that would be the one I can see using the most after Library Radio shuffle.

@thejab Thank you - you have described exactly what happens to me - that black background effect, followed by the list again and then circle.
I thought i was imagining until you descibed it.

I am getting the impression that the Devs are ignoring this issue and just fobbing us by saying it’s a lack of choice - when in my case it patently isn’t.
It must be something to do with the server, otherwise it wouldn’t occur on both the Android and the Windows version of PlexAmp.
I haven’t tried every genre or mood, but will do so and report back here. For me none of the "decades"work either - even though neary every MP3 has the correct year in it’s tag.

Just checked again and none of the Genres, Time Travel, Mood or Decade radio works.
Int5erestingly, randam albums now seems to play random albums not just the same one.

I have the exact same issue. If doing it on the regular Plex app, it states, Couldn’t retrieve play queue for this item. Please try again. If on Plexamp; the circle just keeps spinning.

I have finally sorted out the issue after changing a setting on my Plex server after a discussion eleswhere.

It turns out that plex wasn’t picking up the tags properly until I did this:-
“Edit your music library, go to the Advanced tab and scroll down to ‘Genres’.
You can set this to ‘Embedded Tags’ if you want the Genre tags from your files to take precendence over Styles.”

It seems Plex doesn’t really use MP3 tags properly as it focuses more on something it called ‘Styles’ which it picks up from a web site called Allmusic.
No idea why though as for example AllMusic classes Motorhead as the same style The Wurzels! (Pop/Rock)

But anyway at least now it works

That’s not Style, that is the Genre.

My mistake - I went to the website and typed in Motorhead :-

No wonder you don’t use their genres!
At least I can now use my accurate Genre tags.

My Music Library has always been set up this way (I just verified it) but I still get nothing (black screen) when trying to load most genres in Genre Radio. Thank you for the suggestion but it didn’t fix it for me.

Have this problem as well!

“Decades Radio” not working for me, either. Behavior more erratic on my Mac Pro - sometimes it plays one album, sometimes one artist, sometimes it starts off with the exact same song as last playback, and sometimes it just freezes up. I love the “out of the box” thinking from the Plex team, but I wish they would invest in broader user beta testing for Plexamp and not try to rush out these features. I know others will disagree, but I really like Plexamp, and I want to make it my exclusive ‘go-to’ playback app. I just find myself constantly going back to the standard Plex App every time due to buggy software issues.
