Plexamp 4.1 questions

Thanks for Plexamp 4.1! Can you go into a little more detail on these two new additions?

  • Strict sample rate matching mode.
  • Add a setting which forces remote connections with GoogleCast devices.

The old smart mode just changes sample rates if playback is idle or stopped. This new mode always matches sample rates for every new track. It can lead to DAC clicking, weirdness with Sweet Fades, but for those who prefer Best Bits™ it’s fairly highly requested.

Some people have messed up LANs where there’s no other way for the Chromecast to reach their server.

Thanks!

Sweet fades always sounded weird with Classical

Great update, thanks.

Sweet Fades can be disabled in the settings.

Thanks. :+1: I was aware - this was my (poor) attempt at humour.

I’m excited about the strict sample rate mode, but so far, as of 4.1, all my downloads are showing Opus 256 instead of their native format on iOS.

Looks like I might be streaming instead of playing the download, but could be a display issue.

And now it’s working fine — hmm

Actually, it looks like if I play a song from the downloads section then it does play the downloaded song. But if I navigate to that song on the other tabs and play it then it will stream the song (Opus 256). I checked that I had prefer downloads set to “Always” and I did — i switched that setting back and forth but it didn’t fix it.

So it seems that in 4.1 that the setting to prefer downloads is not working.

Nothing should have changed there, and I can’t reproduce. Please open a new thread with logs if you’re still having the issue.

I was able to confirm that the correct downloaded version is playing, but the display says “Opus 256” instead of ALAC 96/24

So it seems purely a display issue not a playback issue. Elan, can you try to reproduce that?

If it’s still not behaving like mine then I will send logs.

The use case is to play a downloaded song from the browsing tab, not the download tab, then the correct downloaded hi resolution version appears to play based on my Plex activity, while the display shows Opus 256 when it should show ALAC 96/24.

If I then browse to a song that is not downloaded then the Plex server activity shows a song playing at 256 kbps as expected.

I think this is where you might be confused; when a downloaded version is playing, the Plex server doesn’t know what you’re actually playing, so it just shows the original quality. Plexamp knows the actual quality downloaded.

Right — I don’t think that I’m confused there just explaining it poorly.

The Plex server shows 256 when I’m playing a song not downloaded (correct). It doesn’t show any bitrate for a song I downloaded (also correct)

Plexamp also shows 256 for a song I’ve not downloaded (correct)

Plexamp shows 96/24 for a song that I’ve downloaded and played from the downloads tab (correct)

Plexamp shows 256 for a song that I’ve downloaded and played from the browse tab (incorrect) while Plex server does not show 256 in this case indicating to me that the correct downloaded song is being played but the incorrect bitrate is being displayed in Plexamp.

So the behavior is consistent on the Plex server and is as expected but Plexamp is inconsistent when playing a downloaded track from different parts of the app.

I hope this better explanation helps

Maybe a simpler way to explain the issue:

When I download a track at 96/24 and play it from the downloads tabs it will display 96/24 on Plexamp, but when the same exact track is played from the browse tab it displays Opus 256 on Plexamp.

In both cases the Plex server shows the same activity (no bitrate displayed) which indicates to me that the download is playing although 256 is being incorrect displayed by Plexamp in the case where I played the download from the browse tab.

Restart the app; play the download and stop it; play the streamed version and stop it. Post full logs.

Will do. Just to be clear, I believe Plexamp is correctly playing the download version in both cases, but just displays Opus 256 incorrectly when I access the song from the browse tab. At least that’s what I think is going on. I’ll try to post logs now.

Ahh, that’s an interesting data point, we’ll try to reproduce over here!

Hi Elan, any luck reproducing this one? It is consistently happening for me.

should be fixed in the next release.
