PlexAmp 4.9.3 Library Source keeps changing

Lately my PlexAmp app on my phone (One+ Nord N30 Android 13) Keeps changing my Library Source on it’s own.
Now I do have another 2 phones using my account (my wife uses PlexAmp for Audiobooks to sleep and my bedside “night player” for my Audiobooks using Chronicle) but never until recently has my regular use phone keep changing the Library Source to Audiobooks on it’s own. I could literally be listening to my servers Music Source in the house, shut it down then reopen PlexAmp in Android Auto and have to re-choose the Library Source to Music even though the player still has the last song playing minimized to the bottom of the app.

Is this supposed to be happening? Is this one of those “new” features we didn’t ask for? or is this a bug in the program?

Never heard of that happening, but I have heard of one other report. Please post Plexamp logs after it happens.

This has been my experience since I started using Plexamp a few years ago. I have a music library and an audiobook library. I never use Plexamp for my audiobooks, but every now and then I’ll open Plexamp and it will be on the audiobook library. Seems to happen more often in Android Auto.

We’d love to see logs right after it happens, never seen it myself.

Ok happened again today didn’t listen to Any Audiobooks on my phone today and the last thing I was listening to on with PlexAmp my phone was Music (yesterday) Judge (as you can see the player minimized on the bottom still shows it and when I open PlexAmp the Source is now Audiobooks Library

Here are the logs after opening PlexAmp and taking a screen shot

(BTW the instructions listed above in the link you posted to, @elan, are not correct, at least on this build on my phone, took me a few to find it)

Mobile platforms (Android, iOS and derivates)

  1. open PlexAmp
  2. open the “Settings” menu of PlexAmp
  3. dive down into “Advanced” <----should say 3. dive down to Device
  4. scroll to the bottom and tap on “Debugging”
  5. Tap on “Share Logs”
  6. select whichever communications channel/app you like, to transfer the logs to you

Thanks for the log, this is Android Auto being a little @$#%#$% and trying to browse the entire tree and in doing so switching libraries. We used to have the switching library functionality disabled on Android, I re-enabled it and apparently forgot about this aspect.

We’ve added a counter-measure for this which should hopefully allow people to keep using the feature without it being triggered unexpectedly.

Thanks @elan for looking into it. I’ll keep my :crossed_fingers:
Happy New Year! :fireworks: :sparkler:

Well keeping my fingers crossed @elan for 2024 to break this cycle seems to have broken PlexAmp completely today :frowning:

So heading to work this morning, I plugged my phone into my Android Auto receiver wanting to continue to listen to my Hardcore Playlist via PlexAmp (to start the New Year off right  ) and I get greeted with the counter measure you said would be there (Choose Source right as I open it) seems ok, at least better than randomly choosing Audiobooks for me.

Looks like this…(taken when I got to work to recreate and show what was happening while I was driving, cause trying to take it on the road would be dangerous but my drive started around 3:40am if this helps with the logs)

But then it just went down hill from there.

All I got was a spinning wheel of death that never seemed to load anything…

But then if I pressed the “Now Playing” icon (circle bottom right) it would bring up the last song playing in the player screen…

And would play it, but was not loading some songs (I know I’ve listen to through PlexAmp before on other playlists) it would just show the scrolling (left to right) bouncing “Song Progress” bar then skip to another song and play a new one from the playlist just fine.

When I got to work I tried opening up PlexAmp without being plugged into AA and took the following screen shots (Player was minimized but nothing would load)

But I had to go into work, so I closed the app, downloaded the Logs and rebooted my phone.
Here’s that log download
112100262613.zip (206.3 KB)

Then while on break I tried to see if my Server was down and was causing the skipping of songs or not loading so I tried opening the regular Plex App and PlexDash and these where those screen shots…

Actually made me think that my Server was offline, but then after I left work I tried to load PlexAmp in AA again and had the same result as I did at 4 in the morning. So I switched over to my podcast app (which I wouldn’t have to do if we still had podcasts in Plex :frowning: ) and halfway through my hour drive, while listening to a podcast I get audio playing from PlexAmp through my AA receiver (JFA to be precise, a band that no true crime podcast would play during a story about a murder) playing alongside of my Podcast :astonished:!
I pause my podcast and tap on PlexAmp and sure enough it’s playing a JFA song. Weird right?

So when I got home I checked my Server and it was running fine (no signs of a reboot on the PC or errors in my notifications or double Plex logos in the hidden icon tray, which I’ve had when the computer felt a need to reboot or Plex has crashed and reloaded).

So I open PlexAmp again on my phone and Now it loads fine, my player is minimized with that JFA song paused BUT the library it’s showing it’s on is a friend’s Music Library from his server in Nevada???

So here is that downloaded log
14122099399977.zip (115.8 KB)

Please make sense of this???

P.S. Plex and PlexDash open fine and show all info correctly now also.

All of this sounds like a network issue causing your server to become inaccessible remotely.

To be clear, elan was talking about a change to the code to prevent the library switching caused by Android Auto. It’s not a visible change, and it hasn’t been released yet. It’ll be available in the next Plexamp release.

Okie dokie @aubrey.wodonga

I think it’s a wider issue with Android Auto, I fixed the problem with the Remote Connection (after 5 years with no problem ever, I had to add the “Manually specify public port” for some reason) and PlexAmp works fine on my phone (as the standalone app) but the minute I plug it into the AA receiver it doesn’t play well and will not load.

I’m wondering if the last update (of AA) changed something because I’m getting issues with Waze (maps) also. :man_shrugging:

My AA version is 11.0.635014-release if that helps any?

Well @elan it’s still happening with PlexAmp. The last 2 days my PlexAmp is still opening to Audiobooks Library when I’ve been listening to the Music Library.

Not sure if it’s an Android Auto issue still. Both times I’ve been listening to my Music Library in the car, change over to AntennaPod and the next instance of opening PlexAmp (when I get home and want to put on some background music) it has returned to Audiobook Library, but still has my last music song minimized in the player at the bottom (at least in the second screen shot, I closed the player on 1-11-24, sorry).

Screen Shots and logs for the last 2 times.

Thanks for the logs, we’ll improve the countermeasures.
