Plexamp for Andoid Auto Cannot Switch Between Libraries

I am using the latest version of Plexamp with Android 16, in my car with wireless Android Auto. The player works fine. However, my server has two music libraries: Audiobooks and Music. On the Plexamp app, I can click the library icon and easily switch between the two. In Android Auto there is no such icon or way to switch between libraries. I have to make sure this is set before I begin driving or I need to get out my phone to change it.

I do see this mentioned in 2018 but has not been fixed. The comment, “Android Auto does not allow for changing libraries.” makes no sense. Plexamp is just a UI and can be designed to do whatever the app on the phone can do. The only limitations should be on what the UI cannot display. Displaying a selection list of libraries seems pretty basic.

Please add this feature in a future release.

Unfortunately you’re wrong when it comes to Android Auto. Google doesn’t you to make an arbitrary UI! They just have a primitive tree-like manu structure. We tried to hack library switching in, but it didn’t end up being possible.

Pretty sure I am correct. Review documentation for developing media apps for Android Auto clearly shows examples with a top navigation of icons (similar to how Plexamp handles this on the app). The only difference is that the app would need to move the library switcher in AA view to this bar:

Once the libraries button is clicked it would use the standard browsing view to list out the available libraries. So maybe the challenge you are talking about is not the UI but how you switch libraries and reload the interface for the new library?

Yes :+1:t3:
