Dear plex team,
first of i want to start with a big thank you. I have been using Plex and Plexamp for about half a year now and I love a lot of things about it, especially about the latter. I was looking for a solution to stream my audio collection from my NAS and - after playing around with Emby for a couple of months - I decided to give your software a try. I have not been disappointed so far, Plexamp is exactly what I am looking for - a minimalist UI providing me with a lot of background info about the music I passionately collect. But enough with the chitty chatty, I am here to share my thoughts on what could make Plexamp perfect in my opinion, since it is “just” very good now. All these takes resemble my personal opinion and come from a user perspective with no knowledge in programming.
So, lets get to it!
While playing in the main window Plexamp shows me the artist, the song, album name, its year, file format and resolution.
I always longed for the option to let a player show me a secondary release date - one for the original release date of the record and one for the release date of the medium i took it from.
Another option I would love to be able to display in this view is the label of the record. Like the artist it could just sit there beneath the album name and bring me to more releases of a certain label.
That brings me to the label section in general. I would love to be able to edit the labels like the artists with a dedicated picture for every label and a section for some info, maybe a founding date.
I made you a horrible sketch of how this could look like - excuse my non existent photoshop skills.
All that info could be toggleable for people who do not want to utilise it, like the file info fe. I would love to be able to do this more often - decide what gets shown and what not - in general. I do not use the star system at all, why cant i deactivate it?
EDIT : Something else i’d like to add - please give us the option to display additional media aside from the cover art. I have Data for booklets, backsides etc that have no use in Plexamp or Plex - an option to show that off in the player would be great!
1 little thing :
The lower section of that sketch brings me to a UI decision that baffels me a lot in 2021 - why lists still always get shown on the left side of the screen. I get that it breaks up the picture in different sections - but is that always neccesary? For my eye it would be way more pleasing to let everything in this view stay centered since everything else already is. I know that this boils down to taste and probably scaleability, just my 2 cents. Please dont hate me for that idea.
So, this is all the feedback I have, maybe someone likes the ideas, maybe not, I enjoy plexamp as is, it will probably only get better from here.
